Only problem with BNC is having the cables, and those are pretty expensive IIRC. But yeah, I would have probably been better off with the Samsung =/

<< I don't see why people buy Sony products. They're expensive, they aren't of better quality than other brands, and their customer service is terrible. >>

Yes. I'd rather pay more to buy Eizo mon instead of Sony.

Eizo mon is made in Japan.

Sony G420S

Horizontal Scan Range:
30 - 107kHz
Vertical Scan Range:
48 - 120Hz
Maximum Resolution:
1800 x 1440
Recommended Resolution:
1280 X 1024 @ 85Hz
1600 x 1200 @85Hz
Input Connector:
Captive 15 pin mini D-sub 15 pin mini D-sub

Eizo T761
Center: 0.24 mm, Edges: 0.25 mm (Aperture Grill)
H: 30 - 115 kHz V: 50 - 160 Hz
D-Sub mini 15 pin and BNC x 5 (switchable)
1280 dots x 1024 lines flicker-free at 107 Hz (max) (1600 dots x 1200 lines at 92 Hz addressable)
USB Ports 1 Upstream port (for computer or another hub) 4 Downstream ports (for peripherals)

same pitch, but Eizo T761 has higher refresh rate than Sony G420S, Eizo has bonus USB hub.
The only good thing about Sony G420S is dual d-sub inputs so you don't need to buy bnc cable.

Eizo T761 is $640 at dell, Sony G420S was $550, when you're going to spend over $500 on a crt mon, why not spend little bit more to get the best? And last time where there was 20% off discount, you could get the Eizo at the regular price of a Sony, why not get Eizo?

Sony G420S seems to have a price reduction recently, now it's $430 at dell, same price as G400 now.

So! Are you implying that just because Eizo manufactures in Japan they have better designs or Q.A. than other manufacturers?

Every other monitor manufacturer has long since moved out of Japan for obvious reasons. Labor in Japan is to expensive. To me this is simply an indication that Eizo missed the boat.

I'm not saying that Eizo doesn't make good products, I just don't see the relationship between where the product is made and its quality.

Yes. When you're paying so much for a Japanese brand product, don't you want it be manufacturered in Japan?

That's why Eizo's higher price is worth to buy.

I'm not saying other brands don't make good products. For mon, if you want to pay over $500 for a non-Japan made Sony, why not spend little bit more for Japan made Eizo?

Based on that theory, If you buy an American brand, Dell, Compaq, H.P. Gateway, ViewSonic, Cornerstone, Princeton, Planar etc. you expect them to be made in the U.S.A.? None of them are. I still do not see the correlation to quality and where a product is assembled.

There is a definite correlation to the cost of a product and where it is assembled, however that has more to do with labor rates than anything else.

It may have been something to be concerned about in the past, but nowadays it really isnt a concern as to where the monitor is made, just so long as it is manufactured/adjusted in the right hemisphere. I personally prefer monitors that are made in Japan, but they are far and few between. The Panasonics I owned were Japanese made and worked GREAT. Korean made monitors back years ago use to be crap. I had a Goldstar turn green on me after a year. Japanese are pretty strict on Quality Control.

I remember when the Amiga 1200 came out, and a whole bunch of units assembled in the Phillippines had the clock header soldered on the wrong side because they read the diagrams upside down (they were in english) Was a very costly mistake for Commodore.

I currently own a KDS, Korean made, but uses a Sony FD Trinitron. Works great, and going on 2 yrs since its manufacture. I had a Sony G400 before that, Made in the USA, darn thing went on the blitz after 6 months(would just dimm for no reason -- the screen would dimm real faint. Friend of mine has a Sony G400, the power button broke on his after about 6 or 7 months.

Yes. When I buy an American brand product, I'd look for the one that's made in the USA. If none of them is, I'd accept it.
