"So, you would have been all for firing Dusty Baker as well for his racist comments ?"

I think Baker's comments made him look stupid more than racist. Had he elaborated further, I can see a situation further arising that would get him fired.

RACIST? how in the WORLD is this RACIST?

Rush was hired to point what others aren't willing to say. So he said it. He wasn't even making a judgment on the player himself, rather he was bashing the media. THAT is why is getting so much press over it.

That type of attitude has no place in broadcasting IMO.

"I don't think he's been that good from the get-go," Limbaugh said. "I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. There is a little hope invested in McNabb and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."

How is that racist? I bet the majority of the team's offense is black too, and he praises them. The media is smearing him because he smeared them.

Actually, McNabb is really good, he's just trying to sandbag his way into free agency.

huh? didn't he just sign a $100mil contract in the offseason?

I think it is racists because he made McNabb being black an issue and bascially says that he only gets attention because he is black, even though McNabb has excellent stats and has helped carry the team. If he had just said McNabb was overrated, then fine, he can have that opinion. But to say that McNabb is just a media darling because of his skin color I find to be a loaded comment.

Edit: // Assuming this was an attempt to bash on the media and not a player, Limbaugh could have been more clear about it.

The Eagles Offense SUCKS.

I fail to see anything racist in that statement as well. This statement is dissing McNabb, but not because he's black, but because he sucks. It's getting popular to yell "racism" at the first chance. How about we all become a bit more thick-skinned.

I still fail to see racism in that. He didn't say McNabb is *bad* because he's black. He said McNabb gets a lot of undeserving attention because he's one of the first black quarterbacks. That's like saying Matsui or Ichiro get a lot of undeserving attention because they are the first Japanese baseball players. Does THAT sound racist to you?

Why Rush wont be fired from ESPN:

from cnn/si:

"Limbaugh has helped increase the ratings for Sunday NFL Countdown. Nagle said ratings are up 10 percent overall, and 26 percent among the 18-to-34 male demographic. Sunday's show drew its biggest audience in the regular season since November 1996."

and the fact that he is right (both senses of the word).

So if it's true (that he is a media darling because he's a rare black QB) it's still racist to point it out??? Even the truth is racist?

I'm not saying it is "ture" but obviously Rush thinks it is. And this is a media bash, not a direct bash of McNabb.

Looks like your knee jerked so hard that it knocked all reading and comprehension skills out of you. He didn't imply your bolded statement at all. He wasn't correllating skill and race in any sense. He was addressing the fact that much of his publicity is generated because of his race. And to some extent that is true. We are seeing the same thing happen with Ty Willingham(sp) and saw the same thing happen with Bobby Williams from Michigan State. RTF article before spouting off.

"It's getting popular to yell "racism" at the first chance. How about we all become a bit more thick-skinned."

Again, Limbaugh's comments can be taken multiple ways. I read it as McNabb was only getting attention because of his skin color and that he sucks. I live in the least black state in the Unisted States, if you can say something bad about minorities, I have probably been in a room with someone saying it. I think RL's comment was racist because of the situation, and I have a very high tolerance of this type of thing.

LOL. I love it when people who are discussing racial topics have to clarify that they "live in the least black state" or "I have lots of friends that are black"... etc.

The fact that you point this out clarifies many things.

Last year he played in only 10 games:

2289 yds passing
17 TD
6 INT
6.34 yds avg

460 yards rushing
6 TD

extend that to 16 games and you get:

3600 yards pasing
27 TD
10 INT

736 yards rushing
10 TD

Those are all-pro numbers with a team without a marquee WR or RB

blah blah blah blah
extend that to 16 games and maybe he has -10 rush yards and 15 more int's you don't know.

He sucks. Accept the fact and move on.
you're a f*cking retard, plain and simple. look at every great quarterback in history - elway, montana, marino, etc. and compare the stats for their first 4 seasons. mcnabb has much better stats.

If I am understanding you correctly, it appears that you realize that RL was making an assessment of Donovan's popularity, but NOT directly connecting his skill level with his race. I don't see how you can make the jump from that to racism. There are numerous examples of the media centering around "feel-good" type stories with minorities. As I mentioned before, there have been tons of conversations about black head coaches and success stories. The success of the Japanese baseball players in the MLB have been explored in depth by the media. Yao Ming too. Heck, Jackie Robinson still sees a lot of air time each year as the media cherishes successful minority stories. Merely pointing this out (as RL was doing) is not racism!

Millenium did the same thing and people are adding him to their signatures in droves. That's all RL was doing. He was making an assessment of the situation. His words were not derogatory or racist.

Err hrmm. <-- that was in response to an earlier comment.

Everyone reads this type of stuff different ways. I think the comment had tones of racisim in it, but totally understand people who think it is not. I also dislike Limbaugh, so I presume the worst.

Anyone who thinks McNabb sucks doesn't know a thing about football. If the Eagles ever manage to get a decent wide receiver or two, that offense could be scary instead of throwing 50 short passes to backs and tight ends. The fact they've made it to the NFC title game the past few years speaks wonders for McNabb.

McNabb to Marvin Harrison...those were the good 'ol days at Syracuse :) Maybe they'll reunite someday in the NFL.

"Rush was arguing McNabb is essentially overrated and that his success is more in part [due] to the team assembled around him."

HAHAHAHA...has this guy ever seen an Eagles game? yes, the defense has been very good but you still have to score points to win and I guarantee you names like Staley, Thrash, Pinkston, and Mitchell don't put fear into the opposing team. McNabb is the one guy the opposing team has to focus on when playing the Eagles. He was leading the league in fantasy points last year until he got hurt. To do that, you have to put up some nice stats.

This is NOT a racist statement, people. Quit being so quick to jump the gun on the race card. He's obviously commenting on the media coverage of McNabb. Let's lay it out plain and simple:
"McNabb is no good because he's black."
"McNabb is no good, but he gets alot of attention because he's black."

Which one of these statements is racist, and which isn't? (Hint: only one of them is racist)

Two bad games to start off the season and suddenly McNabb isn't a good QB?

Didn't the Eagles play in the NFC Championship in each of the last two seasons, and you could easily argue that he is their only good skill player?

Rush's comments are way out of line...only a Rush supporter could say otherwise. I say ESPN drops him from their pre-game show, his role on there is pointless anyway..
