No one here can even name any of the other soldiers that were involved in that whole ordeal. She didn't do anything alone. So why is she the focus of all the media attention? This is completely HIS opinion...I've never once heard that McNabb was in any way, shape, or form overrated...yes, the Eagles D was much better than their offense was, but this isn't the Baltimore Ravens superbowl team with Trent Dilfer at QB, where he was there not to lose the game...McNabb has been the central focus of their offense, which lacked any star running backs or recievers..their star on offense is him...runner up for the MVP in his first full season as a starter..3 time pro bowl player.....And Rush thinks that is because he is black and therefore the media is extra nice to him? RIDICULOUS! Ask Kordell Stewart how kind the media is to him since he is a black QB.

I completely agree with you, however, in your case, Lynch was unique as being the only woman. In the NFL, there are several very good black QBs: McNabb, McNair, Culpepper, Vick, Brooks, hopefully Leftwich, etc. Rush is a moron for singling out McNabb just because he's had two bad games saying the media is hoping a black qb succeeds when there are 4-5 of them doing pretty well and a few others that start for their teams. Completely uncalled for and stupid IMHO.

Another thing about this whole thing: I bet you most of the people accusing RL of being racist are white themselves. How many times have you seen a minority athlete complaining of being treated badly because of his race? Now how many times have you heard media blow a story out of proportion just because they thought somebody said something racist?

From his lunch time show, I heard it 680 AM WPTF, he is standing by his statement which he is saying is not racist at all.

In my opinion, I always wonder about the entity known as "the media." It seems as if there is a cartel or organization (and no, not the broadcaster's association) that makes decisions for the group as a whole. I don't buy it.

Obviously McNabb has very little to work with on offense, and to me he's not overrated. I don't think the media give him coverage because he's black, I think it's because he's done a lot with what he has to work with on his offensive team. If he sucked no one would be talking about him on a national level, other than taking shots at him and the coaching staff.

What the media does do with respect to black quarterbacks is this: they are EXTREMELY sensitive toward calling them "running quarterbacks," as if that somehow implies black quarterbacks don't have the cognitive ability to make reads and lead an effective passing game. Never mind the fact that if a guy can escape pressure and turn it upfield, in addition to pocket pass, it gives the opposing defense all kinds of problems and makes the QB more dangerous. Every week, the play by play guys go out of their way to clarify it if they feel they've labeled a black QB even if they didn't explicitly do so, and they back away from the words "running" and "quarterback" to the point of absurdity. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the NFL was behind all of this, and they briefed the media on this issue and told them to back away from using the term.

I wonder if Limbaugh was trying to say something like this, "The media has been overly sensitive about criticizing a black QB who struggles with the passing game." I don't know if he was trying to say something more along those lines with respect to McNabb or what. It's a bogus statement if that's the case, because even though McNabb's basically looked like crap this year, his past performance indicates he's a very capable NFL QB.

I think the biggest problem with the statement is that Rush is the only person who has that opinion..its almost as if he is trying to be controversial....McNabb is clearly a quality NFL QB..two bad games shouldn't tarnish the last 3 years of his career, which Rush is trying to say weren't that good - which is totally wrong. How about the Eagles lack of any real quality receivers, or the fact that the have lost several major players to free agency of the past few years....those are the reasons for the Eagles slow start, not the white media falsing building up the talents of D.McNabb..

I think this is one of the more ridiculous comments anyone has made about the NFL in quite some time.

Does Aaron Brooks have the press 'hoping' for him? Kordell? I suppose the only reason M.Vick is on the cover of 50 magazines this year, and the Madden 2004 cover, is because the press has built up another black QB?

Rush is making this stuff up as he goes along, much like his radio show, but the difference is that a national audience of people who read CNN and ESPN, who aren't "ditto-heads", are going to question what he says, and not just nod accordingly.


Jessica Lynch's story was built-up to be much more than it really was for reasons that have nothing at all to do with racism or sexism...had Joe Anonymous been in the same position she was in it would have likely led to a similarly enhanced story - lone soldier left, fought till he ran out of bullets, beaten in captivity, left to die, rescued in a daring night-time raid, etc, etc... No correlation at all to Rush's statements.

That's not what he said, in totality. After his comments were made (which I admit even made me gasp, knowing this PC crap would follow) the other four commentators made a specific point to clarify with Rush that his point was not that he was a *bad* quarterback, but that he is a *good* QB, just overrated because the media wants a black QB to succeed.

oh, and he's not the only one who thinks that. i agree with him. the nfl has deep vested interests in promoting blacks at the QB and management positions.

it should be noted two of the four other commentators are/were black, and did not say one word of disagreement.

Ah Jimmy the Greek. I can assure you that if he wasn't in the bag at the time he would have never said what he did. BTW, Cunningham was 5 times the Athlete, not 5 times the QB. As a field General he left a lot to be desired.

P.S. I don't think this should cost Rush his job but I do think the head of ESPN or who ever is in charge with programming should tell him to keep his political opinions to himself or speak them on his Political show.
