meh...I don't blame you OP. You owe nothing to these sports teams...not your hard earned $$$, not your support.
IMO, they have to earn it.
Lots of people get their panties in a knot when people talk about changing teams because their previous favorite sux...Guess what, there's nothing wrong with that. If the team can't perform, why support them?
This doesn't mean you need to change your "allegiance" to whatever team is the current leader every 2-3 months, but there's nothing wrong with giving up on a team you've supported for years.
On the other hand, I've been a Steelers fan since the early 60's. I've seen seasons where they should have stayed home and let a group of high school kids play in their stead...but still rooted for them. Same with the Pittsburgh Pirates. (and they've had some TERRIBLE years) However, I haven't been a "die-hard fan" for many years. I no longer care about stats, (team or player) I no longer buy team merchandise, and I don't live to watch the next game.
I've rooted for the Seahawks since they formed that franchise in the 70's. They've sucked far more often than they've done well. I'm NOT a "fanatic-fan" for them either, but I still root for them to win.
To me, being a "die-hard fan" of a team that is just a large corporation full of over-paid spoiled people who get paid MILLIONS of $$$ to play a game is crazy. People who talk about "We're going to win this game, WE are going to the Super Bowl," are laughable to me.
When's the last time the team invited you over for dinner? When's the last time they came to your house for drinks?
Sorry sports fans, YOU are not part of the team...no matter how important you THINK you are, you're just a sucker.
