I told you they would use a "turbo' switch. :)

67% faster than a gtx580?

If Nvidia uses the turbo switch with 2 gtx580's this card is going to get demolished.

It has a 375 watt tdp.
So much for the 300 watt pci-e spec ha! :)

Not sure why everyone even cares about the 300 watt spec. Give me POWER at any COST :)

It says 350 watts used in games, 375 watts in turbo, and 37 watts idle.

When overclocked it uses 415 watts in games and 450 watts max.

Apparently you weren't here for the Fermi or 280 launches, when this board turned into a Greenpeace meeting.

Now that AMD is busting down power consumption records, I don't really expect that anymore haha.

Fermi was ridiculed because the performance was not that much better than the competition while running hot, loud, and using way more power.

You mean the rants about how much people in 'foreign' countries pay for electricity. How much a month gaming the normal 23 hours a day- 8 days a week , costs !! Not the up front costs, but how much the annual cost would be with that power hog ! lol , couldn't resist.

People actually complained about that? Sorry i missed it.

If it is indeed 699 and i can get my hands on one my 580 is definitely going back.

$699 is not a great price because you can get 2 6970 cards for cheaper than that. also how can you just send a card back after using it?

no and especially not with the kind of setups the typical person buying this card would have.

A 750w PSU Could easily handle this GPU, hell if you stick with the stock settings you could probably get two off a single 750w (i wouldnt want to try it but it is possible)

the card alone can use in excess of 400 watts when overclocked. throw in an overclocked cpu and the rest of your components and you would nearly max out the 12v line on many 750 watt psus. no way in hell could you run 2 of these with a 750 watt psu.

Hence the use of the phrase "If you stick with the stock settings"

And if you are using SB (95w TDP max) with say 8GB of ram (5w), an hdd (10w) ssd (2w), and then cd drive (20w)... that's about 122w for the basic system, throw in a spare 35w for the motherboard, fans, and random crap, that gives us 157w add the 400w you said that gives us 557w The likely hood you will EVER see 100% load on EVERY SINGLE component in your machine at one time is very highly unlikely. Frankly a good 660w Seasonic would be enough for most anything you can put in there. Two 6990 NOT OC'd would still probably work with that PSU because most games wouldnt push them to 100% load with your CPU at 100% load meaning you will not draw enough to push it over the limit. Unless you are running furmark or something (not realistic)

Hd 6990 OC is 67% faster than gtx 580 on AVG
Seems weird that a fully clocked dual 6970 card would put up only that much performance.

My uber smart brain with thinking tells me that this card should be at least 70% faster on stock clocks (830mhz).

We still don't know if the 590 will feature 580 gpus.

and speaking of being unrealistic. you do know most people that will buy these cards will be using overclocked i7 1366 which uses way more power than Sandy Bridge. again the typical person that would buy this card and oc it will be pushing their luck big time with most 750 watt psu out there. and that is nonsense to think you could run it overclocked on a 660 watt unit. people with common sense would never put their psu at 100% load. and again you are crazy to think a 750 watt psu can handle 2 of these cards stock with even a Sandy Bridge cpu setup because that would exceed the 12v on any 750 watt unit out there. you keep looking at the best case scenario under ideal conditions. I am looking at what would really happen with the type of person that would buy this level of gpu which is that they will test and push their components.

wtf, phase change ????

its look like AMD is going all out with this monster, i hope earth can sustain when HD 6990 and GTX 590 user switch on their rig
