Not when Amd is involved.

Just fold and go home Amd. Let intel license X86 to someone who can compete.

It's over Amd is dead and done for.

Like who??

Via? IDT WinChip? IBM? Who?

I too do not understand this post. I as well, am currently using intel and will probably continue to do so, but a healthy AMD does nothing but help us all. A dead AMD does not.

Your post is the worst of 'fanboyism'. I strongly suggest you re-evaluate your position. When AMD does well, Intel is compelled to do well, prices fall and we all benefit. You can see this can't you?

If this new chip can drop processors like the x4 980 and 1090t to all time lows like $120 for either...then its a win for alot of amd users stuck with dual cores and cheaper quad cores .

I welcome any price drops on part of amd....they don't need to sell performance...they can sell more chips then the competition .

BD may not beat 2500k/2600k, esp. not overclocked vs. overclocked, but it's not reasonable to call this the end of AMD. For starters, there is still Llano and Trinity is going to launch next year. A lot of computer users don't need top-of-the-line CPU performance. When it comes to the overall package, Llano does offer something attractive for a budget laptop gamer.

Secondly, I can see BD clocks scaling rapidly as 32nm process matures in the next 6-9 months. Prob. 4.2ghz/4.5ghz Turbo for FX-8170 in Q1 2012 and 4.5ghz/4.8ghz Turbo for FX-8190 in Q2 2012. If BD reaches those clocks fairly quickly, it will become a very fast CPU for multi-threaded apps since lets face it the majority of the market doesn't overclock.

Right now, it seems very underwhelming, but so did Pentium 4 @ 1.6ghz vs. Athlon XP1600+. Eventually Pentium 4 scaled way past 3.0ghz. Then once 22nm comes on-board, we may see a 12-core BD @ 4.5ghz+. Maybe we may even see a 10-15% performance increase if Windows 8 has better core/thread management. I don't see BD being the uber chip, but down the line I can definitely see it competing in the $100-200 arena.

Given that those chips are 45nm, I can see AMD pulling the plug in 6 months or so. Get those chips while you can if you are interested. I can't imagine AMD selling 1090T for $120 when its performance is likely going to be very close to the FX-8120, a $200+ chip.

Yeah seems that is where AMD 'should' be heading, if things goes as planned. I think people are just so disappointed at seeing the role reversal.

Honestly i don't believe the market is ready for mainstream 8 cores.

Seem's almost like a repeat of when they introduced the first generation quad cores.

Not exactly the end of the world...i hope for new and more powerful efficient quad cores as most of the market doesn't need more then a quad core .

If this is accurate and a cheaper 2500k(both cheaper cpu and platform) can beat the new top end BD chip then AMD is really in trouble. The only thing they can do is cut prices to compete and thats going to kill any profits they could have made. Im now convinced AMD will be out of the desktop CPU business within 5 years and will survive off there GPU division and mobile markets.

I find it hard to believe AMD has managed to design a chip that uses more transistors at a higher clock speed, but is slower than its predecessor on benchmarks that are AVX aware.

Yes, it is possible. But I won't believe it coming from Donanimhaber, the same website that "stole" OBR's benchmarks...

as long as the price is not horrible, some people will buy anything. just think how many people bought the first Phenom 1 X4 cpus even though they did not compete well and had a highly publicized bug.

I think it would be hilarious if all these leaks were planned by AMD to show disappointing benchmarks on purpose.

Anyone find any leaked benchmarks from a Nigerian tech site?

EDIT: Nevermind, they just released the Intel Pentium 4 and a new 15 inch LCD in Nigeria.

A large population of Nigerians simply will never own a computer in their life.

So to most people a pentium 4 that can go on youtube and email is a blessing.

I don't know much about nigeria's IT industry, but the rest of Africa is not that backwards.

Nigeria is pretty backwards but I hear lately its government is not as corrupt as South Africa's. Which is saying a lot.

I'm sitting in an office in South Africa typing this on a Core i7 Dell laptop. So yeah, we arent that backwards, except in our internet connections. My home 4MBps connection costs about double what a 20MBPs connection cost in the UK a few years ago.

Corruption is everywhere in Africa, its worse in some places than others. I bought a computer from America, and let me tell you the biggest reason ppl dont have proper PCs are are the stupid cargo taxes. 6950 came Dead, and couldnt return it, FEDEX DHL and all others were asking $250 for shipping only, before customs tax.

Here there are traces of an emerging enthusiast market.

Palit 560 Ti = $575

Count your blessings ppl.

Its actually funny to read this from you 🙂.
I think a month or 2month ago i was the positive one and you were the negative one and at this point we seem to have changed positions 🙂. (Maybe due to different expectations?)

I do agree sucky performance is not the end for AMD and they have great (paper based) things in the pipeline. Giving the volume of BD, it is not really an important chip for profit. But it is their future design choice. I find llano underwhelming also, but that is mostly due to their process issues. The bridge that trinity has to take is huge imo. (increase frequency compared to llano and have a higher ipc than llano).

Not sure if BD can compete in the 100-200$ segment. The only advantage they have is fully unlocked cpu's at a low price range. But they have huge die (due to caches, which don't seem to increase performance) which does not make it an actractive budget selling point for AMD. if they could drop L2 and L3 caches to half it would become attractive though. (don't think it would cost them alot performance)

AMD would honestly be better off just dumping the Bulldozer architecture. Llano, which is K10 (which is very much K8 - which is much K7) is a far more capable product.

The 65nm to 45nm shrink yielded clock speed increases of around 40% for the K10 architecture. If the same is remotely true for the 45nm to 32nm shrink, I just don't understand.

Even a modest 30% boost in clock speed would yield 4.8 GHz quad-core CPUs and 4.3 GHz six-cores.

Everyone prepare for ACT 3 of the fanboy war : How Intel sabotaged Bulldozer and the 3960X is as big a fail as the 8150 (same X6 1100T vs 8150 logic)

What?

560ti costs $300 here.

I just cannot believe AMD can release a CPU slower than thier previous gen. These guys are top notch engineers not a bunch of amatures. I wonder what the Graphics guys are thinking watching all of this.
