Like Jackson calling NYC "Hymie Town"

lol @ calling someone "nappy headed" being racist.
In the context he said it it was.

derogatory, yes.

racist, not quite.
Not so much "Nappy Headed" but "Rough Looking Nappy Headed Ho's" certainly is.

again, I still fail to see how that is even remotely racist. it's simply derogatory.

You are correct; it is not racist in the classical definition of the term. In today's usage of the term though anything said by a member of one race that a member of another race finds to be insulting, demeaning, or derogatory automatically results in accusations of racism being tossed around.

DUH, b/c he and Jessie Jackson represent all black people.

Geez, you people need to get a clue ;)

yes, this is what I've always wondered.

So, can I rent a limo, walk around in a suit, claim that I represent all white people, and get pissed when people offend white people/me? Sounds like a sweet job!

In your opinion which you are entitled too. I see it differently but I don't really care enough to try and convince you.

It means, basically, that your hair is matted. I don't see how it's racist, though it's clearly insulting.

actually, coworker (who is black), thought I was being racist one time when I mentioned something about nappy hair regarding someone who isn't black. Apparently, "nappy" refers to the unique type of hair that black people have, and the way it grows, or something. This was a surprise to me.

She mentioned the hair thing to me before, when explaining that the stereotype of black people not liking the ocean/water is related to their hair. It's such a bitch to take care of (brittle, frizzy, whatever), and water just screws it up.

I don't kwno if she represents all black people, but I'll take her word over Sharpton's :)

When black people make racists comments on the air, its called comedy and its accepted. If questioned, you get blamed for trying to "bring down the black man"..

But god forbid some other race make a comment; all hell breaks loose.

I'm tired of this $hit.

It was once used as slang for kinky hair. Back 30 years ago when blacks would try to go through all manner of products trying to straighten their hair someone that allowed their hair to go natural was said to be nappy headed.

I think she fits the bill. Cruel? Absolutely, but it's a goddamned joke, people need to get over it. If this were a primarily white team nobody would give a crap... But ohnoes, it's basketball, black people, RACIST!!! Not singling you out, but people are way too quick to look for 'racially insensitive' angles to things these days.

And Al Sharpton is an ass. Are there not more worthy causes for him than picketing some radio personality who has already been forced to apologize? Is this really the reason you have certain issues - like black men beating on elderly women - or are there maybe bigger things you should be focusing on... equality in education perhaps? I can't believe anybody, ANYBODY, listens to anything he says with any kind of seriousness.

That's very true and I doubt there are many White people up in arms over this. However only a fool would think this wouldn't create a firestorm among the Black community and there really isn't a bigger fool on the air today than Imus maybe with the exception of Rush Limbaugh.

What he said wasn't racist I dont think, however, randomly calling a group of women ho's on national radio I would consider insulting enough for apology.

So I dont really care, I'd like to see him burn in hell, so feeling sorry for him is quite impossible for me

Why does anyone care what some coked out douchebag has to say? I mean, seriously, Sharpton and his ilk (more douchebags) are giving Imus way too much credit.

Imus should have staged the whole apology thing and gotten on Sharpton's show and said,

Sharpton: Okay. In our studio today we have the very racist Don Imus who is ready to apologize for his appauling and abominable racist comments he made.

Imus: I have nothing to say to you, you fat, nappy-headed crackhead. Go nab a couple more ho's, a few 40's, some blunts and STFU. I won't apologize for something that every black comedian, black radio host, black TV host, black hip-hop singer and black activist can say without retribution. I won't apologize for ****** you pandering piece of fecal matter that has gained some sense of awareness. When you and Jesse Jackson apologize for fleecing the black populace for the last 30 years then I'll apologize for calling a bunch of lesbians "nappy-headed ho's".

Sharpton: *passes out*

Now that would have been something to listen to ROFLMAO.

Sad to say, you're probably not wrong. I think these two, more than any other current African-American leaders, have really perpetuated the victim mentality that has hobbled black people since Dr. King died. It's a real shame. In many respects things have gotten worse, not better, for black people since the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and I think that mindset is an important part of the problem.

Unfortunately I don't see it getting any better either. I am still holding out for the day when Sharpton or one of these other supposed spokes-people for the black community steps up to defend the wrong person. Wouldn't it be something if one of those girls came forward and said something like, "you know, I don't really give a sh*t that Don Imus called my hair nappy, I don't need you or anyone else defending me. I am a rough girl, and I could beat both of you old fools with one hand tied behind my back." I think that would put things into perspective nicely.

Why is Al Sharpton getting involved? I thought Jesse Jackson was the official Emperor of black people.

Do black people in general even care about this issue? It is so insignificant. Does sharpton pull this sh*t just to make himself feel relevant, because as a leader he is pretty much worthless.

That would have taken balls and Imus had his surgically removed a couple of decades ago.

white guilt=extract consessions
its sharptons job:p and its so annoying now when they are basically grasping at straws and basically going for publicity instead of dealing with real issues.
