One good thing that came of this was that Drudge ran a headline all day that showed Sharpton's hypocrisy by not apologizing to the Duke athletes. Also I never cared for Imus so that doesn't really affect me.

the comments wernt even freeking racist they were SEXIST more then anytning

was what he said inappropriate: YES
did he need to be fored over it: NO

its moronic that people are making such a big deal over this

I have a response but sadly "afraid" to post it in this new American environment against whites.

I've asked Mods if OK to post what I was going to post first.

Apparently you need to check with Al & Jessie first too. ;)

they want to regulate all speech by the media , the thought police are on the way
they want to get conservative talk radio off the air

Bingo! Because it is the one medium the Liberals do not control.

Why is everyone so angry over this? The market has spoken. CBS has apparently determined that firing him is more profitable than continuing his show. Everyone here loves to preach about capitalism, but you have a problem with someone using the free market to their advantage?

Two media companies decided that they did not want this fellow to represent their networks, maybe becuase their advertisers didnt want to be associated with Imus.

Personally I watched his show a few times, not my style, but he would never have captured my viewership again after his statements.

He opinions were offensive and if I or you made those sort of statements in front of a customers, we would have be fired without the two week media frenzy.

His 50s-60s racial attitude has been retired, good riddance.

It wouldn't have gotten to this point if Sharpton/Jackson hadn't fanned the flames. They saw an opportunity to pounce and exploit the issue and did so.

Jason Whitlock from the Kansas City Star said it best on Tucker Carlson's show about an hour ago. Sharpton and Jackson are nothing but terrorists running around the country setting fires in the name civil justice.

What a ****** crock of ******. They don't fire Tom Joyner, Doug Banks or any of the other black morning-show DJ's and they ADVERTISE, GLORIFY & IDOLIZE rappers and black comedians that call black women ho's and bitches, call white people crackers, whiteys & rednecks, and call jews hymies. This is such BS.

Now is the time for Imus to find some balls somewhere and make a stand. He should take back the apologies and tell everyone to grow a ****** spine...it was a radio talk-show. He needs to take the fight straight to Sharpton, Jackson and all the other black racists out there that stand on a crutch and keep their own people down while fleecing them of their money and support.

Imus and others need to take a stand NOW and take to task everyone who is swinging the 'condemning stick'. If this firing stands, then every black celebrity, talk show host, DJ, comedian, et al that has uttered "redneck, honkey, whitey, cracker, etc" had better issue a personal apology to me and every other white person out there or be fired and stripped of their ability to make future income by being labeled a racist. Oh wait, we can't do that because only black people are allowed to sling racial insults and use inappropriate words in society.

What a ****** crock...did I already say that?

The problem isnt what he said, its that he legitimized it by apologizing for it.

You can hear things 10 times worse, 100 times more often on Opie and Anthony or Stern...the difference between him and them is that they don't apologize.

It wont take long before someone else rehires Imus. Might be a smaller market, but he'll be back.

Efforts by Revs. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson may have led to the firing of radio personality Don Imus, but the activists are drawing criticism from those who accuse them of selective morality.

The backslash comes a day after Imus was fired by NBC Universal after calling members of the Rutgers squad "nappy-headed hoes" and "jiggaboos," following the team's loss to the University of Tennessee during the NCAA women's basketball tournament championship game.

As a result of the controversy, NBC Universal cancelled the simulcast of the shock jock's nationally-syndicated show on MSNBC.

Although it condemned Imus' negative remarks toward the Rutgers University women's basketball team, the Christian Defense Coalition is questioning why Sharpton and Jackson crusaded against Imus and not against rap record labels and rap radio stations that promote sexism and racism as well as degrading and demeaning statements against women.

"The comments of Don Imus regarding the Rutgers women's basketball team are repugnant, hateful and demeaning, not only to women, but to all of society," said Christian Defense Coalition director Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney. "The outpouring of criticism and condemnation against his vile words are both warranted and justified. However, one wonders why Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rev. Al Sharpton are showing selective moral outrage in the matter."

Sharpton and Jackson have been among the most vocal critics of Imus, who apologized for his statements and appeared on Sharpton's radio show to address the situation.

Rap music has been targeted by critics who see a link between Imus' comments and the misogyny of the genre.

"Why aren't they leading protests outside of rap record labels or radio stations where rap performers portray women in the most vile of terms every day?," asked Mahoney.

Mahoney also asked why Sharpton and Jackson haven't called "for record label executives and DJ's to be fired, who spew forth degrading remarks about African-American women in a far worse manner than Don Imus?

"I simply ask Rev. Jackson and Rev. Sharpton, where have you been when women are being violated like this every day by rap and hip-hop artists?

Despite Mahoney's views, Sharpton has taken steps to address the negativity in rap music.

The activist was among those who met with rappers and attended a peace rally last week following an alleged assault on the 14-year-old son of Czar Entertainment founder Jimmy "Henchmen" Rosemond.

No matter what, Mahoney believes Sharpton and Jackson should expand their crusade to include everyone responsible for the negative treatment of women and other individuals.

"My hope and prayer is that both clergymen are not basing their selective response on the fact that Don Imus is white and most rap artists are African-American," Mahoney continued. "The demeaning and degrading of women must be condemned continually on every level. It shouldn't matter if those hateful comments are being made by ignorant, thoughtless white talk show hosts or by ignorant, thoughtless black rap performers."

He'd be a big hit in Tuscaloosa or Birmingham.

This can actually be a good thing, the backlash from the White Folks is going to be more than either of those two instigators can handle. I think throwing a has been no talent schmuck like Imus under the truck would be well worth it if it will make Sharpton and Jackson irrelevent

Hmmm.....

Did anyone see Imus on Sharpton's show? Sharpton had a weak argument and it showed both in his words and behavior. Parading his daughter out and basically saying Imus called all black women "nappy-headed," when in fact he only called one basketball team that and in fact it was clearly specific to that basketball team and not black women as a whole because he praised the other (mostly black) team.

Then Imus tried apologizing again and again and Sharpton wouldn't have any of it. Imus made it clear that he just goes with the flow and that is how his type of show is performed, and in the moment things can get blurted out like that (which is obviously the case here because his co-host set him up for it).

This victim mentality perpetrated by the likes of Sharpton is holding back the black community and I fear it will for a long time to come. The stereotype of the handout-seeking, race card-playing black person is widening the racial divide because the loudest voices among black people are those who fit that stereotype. Underneath the surface white people are sick of it. Sick of discimination in the form of affirmative action, sick of militant black student groups that hold a double standard by being outraged if any white group was to be formed, and sick of censorship aimed solely at whites in the media when blacks get away with blatant racist speech. The problem is in this environment no voice of reason dares come forward for fear of being the next to come under McCarthy-like attacks from Sharpton and Jackson, and the "reverse" discrimination only escalates.

I just find it amazing that this started out as a tasteless and offensive remark, which he acknowledged was wrong and apologized for. This could have ended there. Hell, it may not have even gotten that far if it wasn't given so much news attention, and it wasn't very newsworthy to begin with (IMO).

Well, now it is very newsworthy, so I guess in one respect you could say Sharpton succeeded, although not in the manner I think he expected. I am personally no fan of Imus at all, but I think by firing him at the call of activists like Sharpton, who serve no other purpose than to prey on the mis-steps of others and support the continued victimization mentality of blacks and other minorities, CBS has really made a big mistake. This is going to upset a lot more people than just a few basketball players and "victimized" minorities. And all of this happening concurrently with the exoneration of the Duke lacrosse players (whom Sharpton actively degraded) is a recipe for quite the storm, and it isn't looking good for Al or CBS.

edit: spelling

He'd be a big hit in Tuscaloosa or Birmingham.

This can actually be a good thing, the backlash from the White Folks is going to be more than either of those two instigators can handle.

I think throwing a has been no talent schmuck like Imus under the truck would be well worth it if it will make Sharpton and Jackson irrelevent.

I now consider Sharpton and Jackson as enemies of the United States Constitution.

The list is actually longer with CBS, MSNBC, GM, Proctor & Gamble and all the other pussy advertisers. Market my ass.

OMG! I never thought I would agree with you!

Second that. I'm impressed, Dave... never though I'd see the day either :)
