Domain Name Registration Question

Ok, I'm confused....

I set up a domain name last year and today I got a notice from Verisign saying I need to pay $29 to renew my registration, however I didn't set up the domain originally with them.

Do I have to pay Verisign for something, or do I just need to renew with the original company??😕

Just the original company. Verisign's been doing that lately. Got an email from godaddy.com about this scam.
