Domain Name Registration Question

Ok, I'm confused....

I set up a domain name last year and today I got a notice from Verisign saying I need to pay $29 to renew my registration, however I didn't set up the domain originally with them.

Do I have to pay Verisign for something, or do I just need to renew with the original company??

Verisign took over Network Solutions last year.

Just the original company. Verisign's been doing that lately. Got an email from godaddy.com about this scam.
