Doing Vegas on the cheap? (flight, hotel, etc)

There really aren't any bad seats for any of the shows. It is wholly unnecessary to buy the high priced seats, more so for Cirque shows, because in Cirque shows the closer you are the more you miss.

we had front row for KA about 4 years ago. it ws cool the actors were about 2 feet from us and when they lit the big ass fireballs i thought my eyebrows were singed.

5 star in the south strip with the similar amenitities

Link?

I still doubt it is Cosmo. There are other similar properties in the south strip. But anything is possible depending on dates.

Anyway you slice it though its a steal for whatever property it is. Just keep in mind there is still that pesky resort fee and taxes on top of the $57 price.

You can walk.
You can take a taxi.
You can rent a car.
You can get an all day bus pass.

The only thing free is walking.

I walked from the MGM to bellagio, it takes about 30-40 mins, since it's a long as walk after clubbing at Hakkassan in the mgm.

if you're going clubbing with girlfriends, and they're wearing high heels, spend the $10 for the cab ride; and walking at night during the summer heat is brutal.

Come in the middle of the week when there is no one here. $40 rooms, two for one buffets and $70 shows. Nothing wrong with staying off strip also. The rooms at the Boyd and Stations properties are just as good as the discounted rooms at Caesars and MGM properties.

Wow that was quick in terms of price collapse... I guess the newness has worn off/people were right their target audience has no loyalty. Last I heard they were doing extremely well on the hotel side but getting slaughtered on the casino side. Looks like they are getting slaughtered all around now.

I wonder if Deutsche Bank will ever be able to unload the $4billion albatross that is the Cosmopolitan. Might have been smarter if they had ate the $760million loss on the default instead of building the worlds most expensive casino. I mean it is a hell of a nice hotel and casino, and has amazing restaurants. It just appears to be a bad business move by Deutsche Bank. I dont think they know what they are doing.

Although Aria and the City Center complex isn't doing good either. And now you have two worlds largest ferris wheel projects dueling it out at opposite ends of the strip. These companies sure know how to piss away good money. Boyd Gaming was smart to shit can their massive project at the north end of the strip. Somehow they managed to sell that sucker to a foreign gaming company.

$60 is average in the middle of the week when your forecasted max occupancy will be around 40% on those days. Como's gaming side is not doing that bad. The gaming side never really recovered in LV and is very dependent right now on asian baccarat play. Something the Cosmo stills needs time to develop and is operating at a disadvantage.

Alright, so I'm a Nevada native, Reno-area but I used to go to Vegas about once a month for a span of about two years. Lemme share what I can.

As far as hotels on the strip go, it varies from season to season honestly, and by what you consider "on the strip". Las Vegas Boulevard runs a fairly long way, and there's some casinos a ways down there. Travel sites would honestly know more than I would about that, but the general rule of thumb is that if you are staying in a casino within two blocks of Las Vegas Boulevard and 10 blocks of the big name casinos you aren't going to be knifed in your sleep or anything like that.

As far as airfare: Southwest. Southwest flies into Vegas from a bunch of places and has a few direct fights. It's cheap, easy to book, and will get you there on time without charging you $25 per checked bag. Travelocity does not index their rates as far as I know. If you're really one of those American/United/etc. prudes, just think about all that money you're saving that could be spent on food.

And speaking of food, dear god does Vegas have you covered. Name an ethnicity, any ethnicity. Chances are good there's at least one restaurant in the area which serves that ethnicity's native food. Turkish, Russian, Persian, Cuban, Korean, Basque (lots of Basque), Japanese, Chinese, the list goes on and on and on. The only downside is that a lot of these places are well off-strip, but trust me they are worth it. If you have any love for Turkish food for example, there's a place in Southern Las Vegas that is worth the 20-minute trek down I-15. On the other side of the coin, there is a local chain called Roberto's Tacos that has to be tried once if you like tacos at all.

The rest I can't really comment on. My entertainment was usually in the order of "get drunk, hang out with people I know in Vegas."

IMO the one thing not to miss is a series of Cirque DulSoleil Shows - anything but 'Zumanity'. See O, Ka, Beatles, Mystere, or at least a couple.

There are dicount tickets at a place everyone there knows if you ask.

Affordale strip hotel: Excalibur.

It's not on the strip but a reaosonably affordable big place with lots of amenities a bus ride to get to is "South Point".

Holy crap. I jsut went to the wouthwest web site and I can get 2 round trip tickets and 3 nights at a hotel for $1200.

WIN!

$1030 for a cheap hotel.

Excalibur Hotel & Casino for $1120
Luxor $1170
Treasure Island $1208

Hrmmm ....

Affordale strip hotel: Excalibur.

This reminds me: if at all possible, check the room first. We booked at the Excalibur one year and were disappointed to discover that they had started deodorizing/desmoking all of their rooms with a lingering spray that was actually more offensive than the smoke smell would have been. After enduring it for about an hour we discovered that of the four of us staying there, three of us were mostly allergic to the stuff to boot. By then it was too late to reject the room or (due to circumstance) go to another hotel. I won't bore you with the rest of the details of that weekend, other than to say that it took two days for us to get maid service to stop re-applying the crap, once when we were in the room watching them try to do it.

Yeah, Southwest is amazing. Depending on when you schedule the trip it can go even lower. I did some poking and found dates a ways out (next month) where total price for two people round trip was $800. Nonstop even!

As far as casinos to stay in, my recommendations would be the Luxor or TI. Excalibur is centrally located but I'm a bit hesitant on it given my previous experience. The Luxor is right next to it and is a hoot if you stay in the pyramid portion of it (though at those prices I'd guess you aren't), just don't get in their elevators while drunk: they go up AND sideways at the same time.

They at one point had much higher occupancy rates and much higher avg daily rates even mid week. There rooms going for $47/night thats not good. If it stays like that, maybe Ill forgo comped rooms for 2 nights at lower tier MGM properties and stay as Cosmo during my next trip.

excalibur is a dump, stay somewhere else imo. maybe they have good upgraded rooms there, but the one i stayed in was junk (their normal room)

Luxor is pretty decent, I would stay there.

Imperial Palace was turning into a hellhole. They've relaunched it as the Quad. Don't know if it's still so sketchy.

LOL... my friends and I used to stay in the Imperial Palace back in the college days. it was the cheapest place on the strip to stay at... but we never spent any time there other than to sleep

B. The hotel you seem to want does not exist. There are a couple reasons for this. The largest is simply the size of The Strip; it's huge! There are no cheap strip hotels (<$100/n), and the least expensive of them are worse than some of the off-the-strip joints. If you stay off the strip you will not be walking anywhere. Even if you stay on the strip, walking is only for the fit. Everything is far. The hotel next door to yours is 2 blocks away. It's can be 125 degrees at 3PM in the Vegas sun. The best thing to do is get a 3 day pass for the Ace, and Deuce (buses). I haven't stayed in any fleabags or roach motels there, but I'm sure Vegas has it's share of dogs. Do some research, read some reviews, and decide. People who were there over 5 years ago are going to be unlikely to make good recommendations due to the pace of change in Vegas.

MGM has by far the best pool/lazy river/outdoor area. They have a waterfall in there that will knock you down, but if you can manage to hunch up under it, it's the best massage you will ever have. They were renovating last summer, so they may have nicer rooms now. They were getting a little long in the tooth my last trip out.

Rio has the best 180 degree view of the city, and the balcony at the Voodoo lounge on it's roof affords a pretty easy escape from it all in case things don't go so well on the tables.:awe:

Aria is/was massively overpriced.

Venetian has the best poker room, some would argue MGM or Bellaggio, but I much prefer Venetian.

I think my favorite casinos are Caesar's and Mandalay Bay.

Bellagio has a nice but slightly overrated brunch buffet.

Mirage was my favorite dinner buffet.

C. Shows are expensive. The best shows are very expensive. They are not dumb over there. Shows that are popular go up and shows that are not disappear. The average cost is over $80 per person, even using Tix42nite. The best shows imo are:

Cirque du Soleil: The Beatles Love at Mirage - This is one of the best live performances you will ever see; it's happy, sad, death-defying, mesmerizing, and uplifting. Simply incredible. There is also a promo going on for those that order tickets this month.

Cirque du Soleil: Zumanity - This little adult-oriented gem is at New York, and it's hilarious, sexy, beautiful, naughty, and a little weird. The original music is A+ fantastic. I actually liked it more than Love.*

Cirque du Soleil: Ka - This is the most linear of Guy's shows but the immense 4-axis moving stage is something that must be seen. Past that it's more of the same highwire death-defying stunts that made Cirque famous.

Crazy Horse Paris at MGM - You're taking sand to the beach, so I can't recommend Thunder from Down Under (which is the best get-laid show in town bar none) but I can recommend Crazyhorse. It's sultry, sexy, a little trippy, and super cool. You might just get lucky after.*

*If you are uncomfortable watching others women's naked boobies in front of your SO, do not go to Crazyhorse or Zumanity, and may god have mercy on you.

Also, if you are going to gamble, for Christ sakes, don't play against the house, play poker. Everything else there is designed to look fun and suck your wallet dry. At least with poker you are only paying the house per hand you are in. In all other games they are your adversary and set the odds so you can not win, and if you lose, at least the money went to some other poor sap, and not that vacuous wise and beautiful woman from the Real Housewives of Orange County.

Honestly, if I were you I would spend this budget on an all-inclusive Caribbean cruise. You will get another day or two for the same money and the food will be better overall and non-stop. Vegas is super-expensive and going there for the first time is always a little perplexing.

For those hotel choices and not renting a car, I would stay at Treasure Island. Excalibur is kind of crappy, Luxor is pretty far South and away from everything else, and that leaves Treasure Island.

And, if you go to their club/lounge thingy called ?Tangerine? the hourly sirens of the sea show is visible from inside. (Free entry with pass they hand out in the early evening walking around the casino area)
