Doing the NYC Marathon for the Amer. Heart Association

Greetings fellow AT'ers,

I'm appealing to your kind and generous hearts for support in my effort to raise funds for the American Heart Association by doing the NYC Marathon. Please support this cause by viewing my page, where you can read how heart disease has affected my life. Please keep in mind that all donations are tax deductible, and I sincerely appreciate anything you all are willing to give to fight against the #1 and #3 life takers in America.

On my part, I've been training hard hoping to make all donors proud, logging about 30-50 miles per week, and I'm now entering the last 3 weeks of training. I'm definitely excited to be doing my first NYC marathon, and more excited that I'm running for a good cause.

To good health!

Allen G.

Wouldn't it be ironic if someone were to have a heart attack during the marathon? Would that be good or bad publicity for the marathon?

It's not common, but deaths have happened in marathons. In any case, it never seems to affect marathon publicity.

Good luck man. I run from a few blocks before the UNIS in Manhattan to the Brooklyn Bridge and back everyday, I can't imagine how much you go through.

Currently about 45-55 mi/week. I'm trying to actually run the race, and not just survive it. I'm hoping it'll be all worth it in the end.

I've never run along the east river, but occasionally I run over the brooklyn bridge before or after work.

🙂

Nice quote. 🙂 I wish you the best on your fund raising and marathon running.

Fullmetal, thank you kindly for your donation 🙂 Every dollar helps .

Is anyone else here doing the NYC marathon or another marathon this year?

I'm not doing a marathon, but I am walking with my mother in the Komen Race for the Cure this weekend. We've walked it ever since she became a survivor, and I'm happy to say we've been walking it for many years 🙂

Most marathons have medical personnel nearby as well. Additionally, most people running a marathon have trained for it.

Good for you 🙂 I'm convinced that 30 mins of walking or some moderate exercise per day is all we need to fend off a large percentage of heart disease, diabetes, and illnesses that approach us as we all get older.

I run about 5 miles 3 days on 1 day off, but a marathon? I'm not there yet.

Kudos, man!

Thanks 🙂 Keep up the good work on your running. If you really wanted to run a marathon, I'm sure you'd have no problem.
