Most I ever did was 19 miles... back soph. year of high school and 15 lbs. of weight ago...

My goal is to get back in shape like that so that I can eventually run a marathon...

I think it takes at least 3 mo's of running to be able to run a marathon safely, so I think 15 lbs will come off pretty easily once you're done with your training. When you do your marathon, let us know. Mile 20-26 is the second half of the marathon :)

7 days to go!

Well folks, I DID IT! :)

Set a new personal best, even though it wasn't anywhere near the time I hoped I'd cross the line. Right now, I'm just glad my digits don't hurt so I can at least type. For those of you that have considered doing a marathon, NYC would the THE ONE to do. The people of NYC are so incredibly supportive and boisterous that they virtually suck you up from start to finish. That was probably the most fun I've ever had while fundraising while enduring quite a bit of pain.

My pace times went as follows:
Location Time Pace/mile
5 Kilometers 0:23:35 7:35
10 Kilometers 0:45:59 7:24
15 Kilometers 1:08:22 7:20
20 Kilometers 1:31:07 7:19
Half-Marathon 1:36:15 7:20
25 Kilometers 1:56:27 7:29
30 Kilometers 2:20:56 7:33
35 Kilometers 2:47:40 7:42
40 Kilometers 3:16:07 7:53
Finish 3:28:17

My pace started to decrease as I approached 30k. What started off as as a twinge of a cramp on my left calf muscle spread like a disease to all major muscles on both legs by the time I got to 40k. My body gave me a speed limit that decreased exponentially as the race wore on, so it was no use trying to push even though I tried. So I did the next best thing...absorb the crowd support. My wife drew a fiery "GO ALLEN!!!", so I felt like the entire city rooted for me to the finish line. It was definitely an incredible experience. I recommend everyone try it at least once.

For those of you that may still be interested in donating or looking for tax write-offs, the American Heart Association will be accepting donations until 11/23/07. Thanks AT for your support!

MANY MANY MANY THANKS,
Allen
