Dog owners: is your dog allowed on the bed?

The mentality at my house was no pets on the furniture. That lasted 7 minutes and she had her way, and we loved her for it.

Our maltese is, our german shepherd isn't typically allowed, but we make an exception for a hour or so on weekends in the mornings when we sleep in.

Heh. A woman at work has her grandkids over to sleep sometimes. She lets the dogs sleep in the bed but the kids have to sleep on the floor in sleeping bags.

my dogs have never been allowed on the bed. when i go in my room, he jumps off when he sees me. after i fall asleep he jumps right back on. he thinks hes sneaky.

edit: i voted yes because he does it anyway, but ive tried to train him off since we got him. my ex called the dogs up on the bed every night, so it was a mixed message. thats why i dont punish him (the old guy passed away) for it.

The chihuahuas are, the big mutt is not. When we first got the chihuahuas we thought that they'd sleep in their own bed. But when they didn't sleep at night in our bed neither did we. And now that we live in NY they pretty much HAVE to sleep with us. lol

Haha, that's awesome!

Very rarely. He can be on the couches with us, but the wife prefers him to stay off the bed. We got him his own bed (basically a big pillow) that we have next to our bed, he sleeps there. But, sometimes the wife will cave and she'll have him up on the bed while we watch TV.

yeah our dog is sneaky like that too. he doesn't usually hop on the bed, but when we take a shower or w/e he ninjas on the bed and shit. sometimes he does it in the morning and wakes up my gf haha. he once ninja'd on the bed, and my gf woke up with his muzzle in her face.

Same here; except mines a he.

No dog on the furniture. We really worked with him as a puppy, and now he's terrified if we try to pull him up onto a bed or couch. We got into a car accident on the highway a couple of years back, and he was in the car with us, and we were all shaken up. We got a hotel room to sleep away the jitters, and wanted him with us. I picked him up (85+lb Rottie-Black Lab cross), and he scratched the hell out of my arms trying to get back to the floor 😛

Our damn cat is 'allowed' anywhere except our beds, and she actually respects that ... or greatly fears me. The last time she tried to jump up she landed on my face, and I was asleep. My reaction was to throw her off, where she sailed across the room and landed on the dog, which of course caused great commotion, and leads us to where she is now scared of our bed. Which is fine by me.

Yes. We cover the bed with an old sheet and let her get on it. But couches are another story - she knows she isn't supposed to be on them, but does anyway. We rarely actually catch her in the act, but we'll come home and all the decorative pillows will be on the floor with the couch seats still warm and covered in hair.

In my opinion or her opinion? 😀

She's not currently allowed on the sofas at all, and she's only allowed on the bed by invitation (invitations are temporarily suspended at the moment because we let her up a few times after we moved and she seemed to think that the new house allowed her up whenever she wanted, so we're retraining her.) In the old house she had her own sofa she was allowed on and she was good about that. I want to get some sofa covers so she can get up because the wood floors in the new house are uncomfortable for her.

Great Dane, btw.

Past dogs were a yes. Then I had one that was long haired and shed constantly, so she was a no. Ever since then it's been no. Their quality of life is not degraded by being confined to the floor.

I allow my old dog on the bed, and she has her own futon sofa in the back room. She will only sleep on the bed when it's really cold. She isn't allowed on any other furniture (and doesn't try to).

My dog is allowed on some beds but not others. She isn't allowed on any furniture which she doesn't seem to have any problems with. I would prefer if she weren't allowed on the bed but my wife didn't agree with that. I'd rather she were allowed on the bed than on the furniture so that's the way it is.
