Take it to the Humane Society and tell them you found it in your yard.

If the owner asks just let them know it's illegal to let dogs run around with no leash and you were worried for its safety so you took it to the HS.

They'll have to pay to get it back and maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Don't shoot the dog as that'd just make you an ass. It's not the dog's fault it has dumbasses for owners.

hm. So OT is really for ON TOPIC stuff? Weird, I always thought it was for random crap (see OP for example).

BURN

Not a burn. This site is for PC related stuff. It's odd that the OP's first post is something OT.

Former lurker?

I think urine does the same thing. Mark your territory.

There are ultrasonic sound deterrants from any pet store if it's really bothering you.

Exactly.

The one answer that is both sane and quite possibly effective.

Regardless of what you do to\with the dog it would be best to put up some cameras in short order as it is likely that there may be retaliation from the owners (warranted or not).

and shoot the owner until it keeps the dog in.

Although, as the answer the OP deserves for asking OT, soft lead, a scatter pattern, and a larger, slower moving target kind of fills the bill. ;)

Oh boy. Don't kill it. That would lead to some nasty retaliation from the neighbor. Spraying it with a mixture of ammonia/water would work.

Don't do anything to the dog.
If you do your setting yourself up for trouble.
If you pepper spray it, hit it with paint balls , or anything like that your neighbor would have cause to press legal charges. Yeah it sucks the way the laws set up, but it doesn't matter if its on your property, by law you still can't do anything to the dog.

I found this out the hard way.
The only way you can do anything to the dog is if its in self defense.
Get a camera and when the dog is on your property doing the things listed take pics. Then call the local animal control and provide them with the pics and file a complaint.

That is what the animal control told me to do.
They will contact the owner, first with a warning.
Then if the dog does it again they will fine them for every time the dog enters your yard.

Take pics each time.

My neighbor wised up after the second fine of 150.00
