I'm glad to hear your dog is getting better. Once she is recovered, you might want to check out Marley and Me, I watched it recently and this thread made me think of it again.

WARNING: May be tear-inducing. :)

Again, did they perform surgery on your dog? If the stomach was twisted, they would have had to perform surgery to get things aligned back plus repair any damaged areas which is why you were getting such high quotes for treatment.

I frankly defaulted to repeating what the vet said. They did not perform surgery on her. What I can say for sure is that the stomach was VERY swollen and looked like it had shifted a lot. The spleen was pretty big as well.

Maybe, just maybe, you're not the "know-it-all" expert you think you are.

Hmmm, think I'll quote your ass back on yourself, "Do you know what bloat is?"

To reiterate, my Dane actually had stomach bloat from torsion and also DID NOT require surgery. Maybe you should remove that stick from your ass before we put YOU under the knife, eh, Capt.?

She seems to be doing better and thank you for the support.

She's been quite playful this afternoon and into the evening which brought back the smiles in the household.:)

I'm glad she's doing well. Does this mean she's in the clear now?

Thank you but I have no idea. We are just trying to make sure that she is comfortable, fed less than usual (we used to give her GENEROUS portions :D but no more:eek:), and loved as much as possible.

 In your case, the vet was able to manipulate the stomach of your dog back correctly b/c like you said, you caught it early before more damage could have occurred. Please explain to me why the OP kept quoting the need for corrective surgery that would require $7k+ to help his dog. Then all of a sudden no surgery was needed and the dog just needed to have his stomach pumped?

Based on your quote, "What I'm saying is that there is no procedure for stomach bloat or poisoning that should cost even anywhere near $2,000 total that I can even imagine.", indicates you don't know wtf you're talking about.

Goose - glad Mona is doing better!

THE FACTS of this case make a red face fool out of you, and you are too ignorant, too full of yourself, and/or too dense to admit it.

Anyone who reads through this thread and has to chew through your pompous and derisive certainty, ABSOLUTELY PROVED WRONG BY IT'S EVENTS, can see that.

The question is, Capt., why can't YOU?

 Pompous b/c I'm interested in knowing what actually happened? Why surgery wasn't necessary? Sorry, if I"m interested in the details. You sound like an idiot with a stick up your ass b/c I caught you for not knowing wtf you're talking about.

You know, your posts usually just annoy the dogshit (pardon the pun) out of me but I must tell you, I'm glad Mona is doing better. I just lost a cat that was with me for 18 years and I know how hard and depressing it can be. Good to hear she's doing better. :)

Whether they were trying to rip me off by over exaggerating or even lying to be, I am just glad she is better. I have been trying to keep the suspicions that my family and I have shared out of this thread since I really don't know what I am talking about:p

Needless to say, what they had told me over the phone convinced me that I was rushing to the the hospital to say goodbye:(. When they were pushing the surgery and said she would only survive with it [and I found out that I couldn't afford it], - I do not remember that last time I felt like that - deep sadness at knowing how helpless I was:(

I am going to get some insurance this time and am going to set her up with a local vet that I've heard great things about to make sure we are prepared for the future.:)

Understandable. Just found it weird how it seemed that surgery was necessary and how she was able to recover without it. Glad things worked out.

I use VPI Pet Insurance and it costs me around $300(Superior Plan)/year. It covers between 20-50% based on the diagnosis/procedure. It has definitely paid out more to me than I've paid in.

Even with a local vet, you still need an emergency plan if your local vet is not open(nights/weekends). If you weren't happy with this place, you may want to research some other emergency places, if you ever need one in the future.
