dog is sick

She's lying next to me here at home.

I read the vet's report and it looks like she started slowly recovering at around 4am.
This morning however found her with more problems including a swollen stomach, and from what I had heard, she was a goner. When my mother and I got to the vet (I thought she had been at the vet but had only spoken to them over the phone, we were surprised to see that she was walking about. She was really happy to see us🙂 We were told that at this point all that was left was to take her home, and hope that she would calm down enough to pull through,

She hadn't gone to the bathroom having been fed earlier so we took her outside while still at the vet. I have never been so glad to see her go #1. she must have gone for a full minute😛 which was a good sign.

As of right now she has been very lethargic and resting. She has gone #1 twice though but no #2.

We are hoping that the comfort of being at home with family will be enough to help her pull through some how. If not, well...

Can't they administer an enema? Or you can do it yourself if she lets you? My dog was blocked for 3 days and it took an enema to get him going.

Haha, no doubt.

A year ago my dog (12) was suddenly losing control of her hips/rear legs, a neurological issue, but somehow she got it back with water therapy after I bought an above ground pool.

After thinking she was a goner, its so wonderful to see her everyday...like she's on bonus minutes or something...and I'm going to enjoy everyone of them. 😀 I'm sure you feel just as thankful. :beer:

next time your 'phone' is low on battery, perhaps walking your happy ass to a landline may make sense when someone / thing is in distress?

You are talking gastric torsion and that should not approach $10k...I'd seriously find a new vet, it sounds like they just got lucky...

The solid matter was removed and some air released. All we could do was hope that it would revert to its normal state.

The main problem was that this occurred at night and we were at an animal hospital and not our vet. From what I recall of my family's discussions, it was only a few minutes before the bill jumped up to $750. I have been quoted $2k-$4k since.

The issue with my phone was that it was low on battery and if there was an emergency between my leaving and arriving at this hospital, I wanted to make sure they had my info and consent if required (I was asking what they would possibly need my consent for in the next 30min while I arrived).


She's a little lively this morning but is a little on edge, barking at everything. She was so edgy when we were leaving (barking more than usual) that I decided to say home with her. I hope she goes to the bathroom soon.

FYI we were given 1 med to give her and bought some Pepcid AC as directed. Hopefully everything will be okay.
