Does your Fortron PSU rattle?

I was wondering if it's normal to hear a rattle from my Blue Storm II 500 watt because maybe I could just take off the cover and see if something is hitting the fan blades. Is there anything in there that could be loose that would hit the fan?

The other possibility I was wondering about is replacing the fan. But, suppose I hook up a fan to the motherboard instead of soldering it (because I don't know how to operate a soldering gun), could that damage the PSU if the fan turns too slow? I don't know if the fan already inside accelerates when it heats up. If I replace the fan it would likely turn at the same rate all the time.

Its fine to open up the unit as long as you don't mind voiding any warranty you may have on it. But replacing the fan isn't a big deal. The fan in the unit plugs into the PCB so you don't really need to do any soldering. A bit of cutting and stripping of the wires and twisting the wires together and using a bit of electrical tape and your all set. Its a cheap ghetto fix but it work. Using a regular case fan is fine since it will be running at 100% all the time. The benefit of connecting the fan to the PSU is the PSU controls the fan speed based on how hot the unit gets. But if noise isn't an issue then your good to go keeping the wires on the outside.

when I replace a PSU fan, I just run the wires out to the outside of the PSU, and then plug the fan's molex connector into on of the PSU's molex connectors. Make sure you dont forget to the plug the fan it, otherwise the PSU will cook itself.

Do you drill a hole to do that or just find one?

EDIT: Holy x-mas. I now feel like an idiot. I just opened the Fortron Blue Storm II 500 watt PSU. And what did I discover? lol, it's a freakin' Yate Loon fan! Then I found out Yate Loon is the manufacturer of Nexus fans (according to silentpcreview).

Well, I don't think I can find much quieter. Or, maybe I can. Anyone know who knows the fans for Seasonic? I'm just wondering if I can get quieter although I do doubt it a little. I know at this point that I want to order a y-splitter for my fan controller so I can add the 80mm fan on my video card. Once I have that fan on the fan controller I can turn off all the fans to see how much noise my PSU fan is making.

By the way, Corsair power supplies are on sale until the end of this month. Anyone know who makes their fans?
