Does your blood smell really metallic?

I'm not sure if it's just because I'm older now or what but I never remembered my blood smelling or tasting as metallic when I was younger. Now if I put blood right next to my nose, it smells really strongly or rusted iron. Is this normal?

"rusted iron" is basically what carries oxygen around in your bloodstream. Hemoglobin is an iron oxide protein complex.

I didn't say I smell the iron in my blood. Metallic = association with iron ions.
