I can appreciate the engineering, workmanship and work that must go into these things but yeah not for me. If I had that kind of money laying around there's a lot of things I would buy instead.
I do wonder if the movement mechanism could somehow be used in alternative energy setups though. Like if you scaled it up. it always ticks at a very precise rate, but it can be winded at any rate. So a wind turbine or solar etc could potentially power a large scale version of these movements and keep a power production turbine spinning at 3600rpm dead on.
It looks good if the look you are going for is old money.
Sad to say that I grew up in an earlier age when watches were actually a practical accessory. Now with everyone carrying around a smartphone, it makes little sense to wear a wristwatch (even of the Apple variety). Wristwatches make as much sense today as public telephone booths (sorry Superman); it's time to move on. Wearing a wristwatch today screams out that you are old (or at least thinking like you are old).![]()

Gold watches are corny and hideous. I can't fathom why anyone would want one.

How come I don't see watches made with silver? Sterling silver watch for us poor people.

I know about siler pocket watches. But I wonder why we don't see silver wristwatches. Silver is cheap and easy metal to work with.A lot of silver pocket watches, not as popular in wristwatch.
22k is lot sturdier than people think. You ever try bending AGE or Krug coin with your bare hand? You can deform 22k gold with your hand...
