Does this sound like a scam?

I'm trying to sell my GTX 780 Ti on Craigslist. I tried ebay could not even sell it for $230 with free shipping which would leave be with around $195 after shipping and ebay and Paypal fees. So I decided to sell it on Craigslist for $200 a week ago. I got a text saying that he will send a money order to me and I can wait until it clears the bank and then once it clears the bank I text him and he will send a mover to my address. In my ad I said local pickup and cash only. A week has gone by an it did not sell so I texted him again saying that I did not sell it yet and I'm willing to sell it to him if he covers shipping and lets me wait for the money order to clear the bank first. I find it weird that he has to send a mover to pick it up. Does this sound like he is trying to scam me?

The money order will be declared fraudulent some time after you've handed over the card, at which point your bank will charge you a fee. So you will receive negative monies for your card.

If he's got some 'private movers' delivering bankers checks for him, tell him he can give that 'private mover' some cold hard cash.

Otherwise, tell them to pound salt.

Definitely scam. As a general rule, if your spidey sense is tingling enough that you post here about it, don't do it. In the long run it's a lot better to accept an offer for $20 less for someone non-sketchy than to risk getting scammed.

Try selling a car on CL or Kijiji some time. Four out of five messages are scammy Paypal or money order proposals. It's terrible.

THIS! Cash only. I've done hundreds of deals on Craigslist and decades before from the local Recycler papers that were sold in So Cal. Cash only, in person...preferably in a public area.

OP, someone is trying to scam you. Also your 780Ti cannot be sold anymore for over 200$! I think you missed your sales window before the 1060 came out, as the nVIDIA loyalists will turn to that card for similiar/better performance than the 780Ti, plus Kepler is dead in DX12 and drivers for it are no longer optimized.

As others have said yes it is 100% a scam and to confirm everyone else, your window has passed for that card. At best you should be lucky if someone is living under a rock and is willing to pay $160-170

Look , it's very simple, and there are 2 unmovable rules of CL:

1: CASH ONLY
2: LOCAL ONLY

Don't even give the courtesy of a response to anyone that suggests otherwise.

Following that, you want to scan responses for clear shady language, misspellings, something that indicates that a potential local cash buyer is looking to ambush you on a meetup. I actually like CL and though I don't use it as often as I used to, still trust it. But, it is always wise to be cautious because horrible things do happen with these transactions, so there is no reason not to be cautious about every transaction. I've conducted 100% of sales at home or at someone else's home with no problem, now in 3 major cities...but I'm also selling/purchasing items that have near-zero chance of theft (furniture, basically--and low-end appliances that attract college students more than they would crackheads, like tiny microwaves and toaster ovens)

Yes OP, selling a 780 TI for $200 is a scam.

It is worth maybe $100-$120 tops.
