It's so hard to pick a "best female voice". And are you talking about best range or what? Plus there's too many different types of music. IMO the best female voice I've heard is Linda Ronsdadt. If I hear her sing the right song on a quality system it bring goosebumps. Her voice is so clear and effortless... brrrrrr 😉

But we're talking about Amy Lee here. One thing's certain to me - she's got the best "rock" voice I've heard in a while and I mean that in a good way. My Immortal seriously blows me away as well - mostly the way she can pull that off as well as the other tracks on the album.

At the same time I like Jewel, Celine, Christina, Tori, Natalie, Sarah, Dido, and some others that I can't think of right now. But honestly, I wonder if any of them could pull off Amy Lee's vocals on their album.

Eh...she can hit notes, if that's what you mean.
Melissa Etheridge seems to have gotten to calm or something (not a single bad track on the first album, the rest are just boring and hardly moving at all).
Stevie Nicks, Skin, Joyce Kennedy*, etc. are good (I'm discounting all of the ones out there that have great voices but music I can't stand, BTW, and not bothering to really search).

* - Georgia can't seem to get education straight, but my fine state seems to be able to push out plenty of good artists (in this case, Mother's Finest)

I think she's ok but nothing special. As far as chops and pure skill goes Christina Aguilera is pretty damned good. I
hate her music though. Kelly Clarkson too. Fiona Apple takes the cake for me. I don't think she's the best skillwise.
There are many singers that can out do her in most technical aspects but she gives me goosebumps. To me she has
more soul and feeling than most. Janis Joplin is also great. Absolutely horrid when it comes to technique,
but I'll be damned if she doesn't make me want to drink a bottle of whiskey and shoot up......

i saw Evanesence in a small venue (Hard Rock Live)
and "the girl" (Amy Lee) certainly rocks and has
stage presence... and live is where it counts!

Most definitely. Just about every "big ticket" performer uses enhancement in both the studio and the live performance these days. Some use a little, some use a lot.

i have heard her live, she isn't all that impressive, but she does sound good on CD's. I think Christina A. has a nice voice, seen her in concert, and man she was just as good as a recording except u can tell she wasn't lipsync-ing.
