haha.. what the hell did you think it was going to boot at? it runs at what your FSB runs at.. it won't just show up as PC2700 on the main screen 'n stuff.
of course it will take PC2700... if you can overclock your FSB to 166 MHz then the 2700 RAM will be running right at home at 333 (166DDR) on the mobo.
that's the only reason to buy higher rated RAM.. if you are gonna run at stock speeds the 2700 will make NO difference at all.
the potential for overclocking and ridding yourself of a bottleneck is the only reason to buy RAM faster than the spec you need.
for instance.. I am going to be upgrading my generic 2100 to some XMS2400 designed to run at 150FSB, i am running at KT266A board too.
my guess is the 2400 runs at at LEAST 155-160 so that's good enuf for me..
