Yes, cigs have about 10 carcinogens, pot has 300 or so carcinogens... much much worse for you.

sure, but generally with pot most people take a puff and then pass it whereas with cigs they smoke 1-2 packs per day.

It only takes one cell mutation to start cancer... and if 300 different types of attacks happen at once, your body cannot defend itself as well versus 10 attacks at one.

Riiiiiiiiiiight....

This is incorrect. While there are carciogenic substances in any burning organic substance, with cannabis there also seems to be a mechanism that prevents cancer from forming.

It has to do with the myriad of chemicals in cannabis. I'm not sure if they've found exactly what prevents it, but in the article I read, they were excited because the research could lead to new ways to fight cancer.

Most importantly, where are all the people dying of lung cancer who smoke cannabis?

Christ.

Exactly, so it's probably less dangerous overall.

Nonono, you got it all wrong! They start with one puff, but immediately switch to cocaine, then start playing videogames and kill people for satanic rituals!

Or wait... Isn't this Ashcroft Fans Anonymous?

Well, i;'d say that being constant/regularly exposed to smoke can eventually cause cancer, since they all have carcinogens.

CBS Covered News Study... (Pretty interesting)

The main difference that none of these studies are showing, is that people who smoke pot do it casually... every once in a while, where as tobacco smokers do it everyday, many many times a day.

Anything is harmful if not used in moderation... even Skittles... :D

I'm going to try and find the article.. It was a bonafide research paper, not from a pro pot PR site....

It said that some cells DO indeed become pre-cancerous, but never actually develop into cancer.

It did say that one side effect seems to be the proliferation of cells that produce hairs instead of cells that absorb oxygen or something like that.. It was a long time ago, I can't remember. ;)

That is interesting.

It is strange that they never mention lung cancer, which is what the article I was talking about focused on.

I think the bottom line is that yes, burning cannabis introduces carcinogens into your body.

Eat it. :p

Smoke it. It clears up your mind, helps you do better in school, and cleans out your system of anything harmful. ;)

No . . . not directly like cigarettes do.

IF it did, the US Govt's propaganda machine would be all over it . . . but it isn't and so pot doesn't. ;)

My ex-g/f's dad is on the board of directors at a hospital here in LA and one of the top pathologists in his field.

He has slides showing the amount of damage that pot smoking does to your lungs; it's much more than you'd think. It CAN cause cancer but the more common outcome is permanently charred lung tissue resulting in degraded efficiency. I don't think pot should be banned but anyone who thinks that it's completely harmless is just plain ignorant.

I would think that IF smokng pot causes, it is not from the many more so called carcinigins, but from the amount of time you hold the smoke in your lungs. If you smoke cigs you inhale and then blow it out....but snoking weed you hold it in your lungs as long as you can.

I agree. I didn't mean to sound like I was saying it's completely harmless.. It is not.. but the 300:1 figure is either grossly overstated, or there is another side to the story, or we would have people dropping dead left and right.. It's probably some of both.

I don't think eating it would have any ill effects whatsoever, though. I suppose the book is still out on whether there are long term cognitive effects, but.. as far as physical health goes, it would probably be good for you..

Have some with your salad.. lol.

Indeed.

Plus, there are many different ways to smoke it. I'm sure a non-filtered cannabis cigarette is far worse than a filtered one, and even worse yet than a large pipe.. which would be worse than a water pipe.

I wonder just how much better a non filtered cannabis cigarette vs. water pipe is..

That would be an interesting study. ;)
