We always have one because it's a tradition and it brings back fond memories. I wouldn't even bother if the only option was a pos silk one.
 
last year my mom wanted one of those small ones that you plant in the yard after.. (i guess nobody told her that it would probabley die planting it in DECEMBER) but my dad just bought her a tropical plant that looks like a christmas tree instead. I forget the name of the plant, they are popular this time of year. his name is jeffery. we are just going to decorate him instead.

decorating the tree was fun when we were little. we don't really have the time or the space for one now.
