Does Notch deserve all that money?

In case you needed a material transaction to illustrate just how much money Markus Persson, aka Notch, has having sold Mojang (and Minecraft) to Microsoft, take a look at this: the dude just paid $70 million (and maybe beat out Beyonce & Jay-Z) to buy the most expensive house in Beverly Hills.

He’s become known for spending upwards of $180,000 a night at Las Vegas nightclubs.

Seems excessive.

I mean that is a lot of fucking money and to say it wouldn't change your personality/outlook on life I think is being a bit naive.

Exactly. Most people can't even manage their own finances, but then spend hours on end critiquing how other spend their money.

With that kind of reductionist logic we might as well not discuss anything not related to our own finances. It's all a waste of time right?

He seems like a decent guy and I couldn't care less how he spends his money; he's earned it. Also, I'm guessing he doesn't give a shit what some busy bodies on the Internet think of his spending habits.

It's funny this guy made like this psuedo-quasi-post-Nintendo like image of himself vis-a-vis his company and product and it turns out he's basically no different in his habits than the rappers in Cash Money Millionaires.

Most poor people are jealous of wealth. This isn't something new. Yet you act like it is. Out from under that rock kiddo.

Well I think we could reasonably differentiate the practice of appearing to have 10x more money than you have, from those who actually have that much money.

He created something that created lots of value. Do you think the money should go to somebody other than him?

I never understood why people get so upset by actors, athletes, entrepreneurs, etc making so much money.
1) If they shouldn't get all the money, who should get the rest? Should we give it to random executives or something?
2) You could argue that we should just pay them less, but then somebody else will offer them more money and they'll go work that person instead.

You should be happy he is spending his money! that $180k went to hard working people!

Notch should be praised for spending his money in such a way! it's getting out in the economy.

1.5 entire generations now who haven't a clue about concepts or principles like limited government, federalism, free markets, private enterprise. Many of them seem to actually think the Revolutionary War was to defeat these things, NOT to win them. That the Constitution was written to limit these concepts and principles, not to secure them.

In all, you have to point at least as much blame on the consumers who enable or facilitate it. If 30 million people are throwing their money at professional sports teams, merchandise, or to see the latest Hollywood movie, purchasing the DVD, or whatever, knowing full well what their money goes to and that some people are getting filthy rich, then who the fuck is to question it? It's voluntary. It's not like you're dangling a heart transplant or cancer treatment in front of them. It's completely elective, expenditure of disposable or discretionary income.

That's an ugly frickin house imo.

I agree. I am not a huge fan of the "modern" style.

IF i had as much as notch i would build a more classic style mansion. I love the 1800's style of houses and such myself.

This. Why should the OP (or anyone else) really care?

He should have built it to look like it was made in Minecraft :D
