If memory serves, in one of the early years of Minecraft he took the windfall and divided it evenly among all of the Mojang employees as a christmas bonus. 100K(i think? google it if you care) for each person that worked for him.

It's his money, he can spend it however he wants. Despite what anyone's opinion on Minecraft is it is a super popular game and he cashed out at probably the right time. And it's not like he lucked into all that money or inherited it, he earned it. If I had all that money I would be making it rain in strip clubs too

I consider myself lucky that I didn't come into really big money when I was much younger, because there would have been smoking hot ($$$) call girls and strippers, a couple hanger-on "friends" who would NOT have been a moderating influence, re-enactments of scenes from Scarface, and probably the expected or predictable consequences of all that.

OP is some kind of asshole

does he "deserve" his wealth? is he a "good person"? these things are not for you to ask or determine, as much as you seem to want the answers to be "no"

He earned it and didn't have to fuck anyone over to do it. Let him spend it as he likes. I'd be more concerned that he is going to end up broke. Oh wait, $7billion? He should be good at this rate.

Yeah man. How old is he? 35? Give him another 70 years because hes rich and will probably make it to immortality.

Calculated it out He can spend 274k a day for the next 70 years. Thats assuming he has no investments.

Spending like that I kinda have to wonder if it'll last that long, or if he'll be scamming people on Kickstarter like Molyneux or something by 2025.

Pretty much every kid I know plays Minecraft. $2 billion was probably a steal for M$.

He's only worth $1.5B. I came out with $58k per day.

He got rich very quickly, on a popular idea, and he didn't have to suck the life out of the people around him.

He defiantly deserves this.

Yes he does. He stole an idea because some dumb ass didn't cover his code properly. Notch turned that basic idea into something beyond anyone's expectations including his own.

Don't be jealous bro. His money is his and he can spend it how he sees fit.

Good for him. So glad to hear of his success. I was really disappointed to hear about how unlucky Tetris creator was for not reaping as much as he should.

Sounds like he's being stupid with his money. In a couple years from now we'll hear a story about how he is doing bad financially and his house is going to be foreclosed etc...

Personally if I won that much money I'd buy a huge parcel of wooded land, maybe even buy a whole lake, and build an awesome cottage and get lots of toys to go with it like heavy equipment. All stuff that I can show something for, not 1 time things that last 1 night. A chunk would go to some kind of investment so I have a steady stream of income, and another chunk would go to charity and family.

And yeah if I was him I totally would have built the house to look like something from Minecraft. Though I guess since MS owns it now he technically could get sued even if it's his own creation. Could be that he looked into it and realized it would be a legal nightmare.

But his money he can do what he wants. I'd be lying if I said I don't envy him, it's awesome to build something like Minecraft and see it get successful and eventually cash out big time.

The house is fine, that's something he can show for it and enjoy for years to come, but spending 100's of thousands per night on entertainment stuff is pure waste. That's money that's just gone with nothing physical to show for it. Often it's that kind of stuff that drives these people to the ground. At least a house and toys you can sell them and downsize if you have to.

I'd hate to see the tax bill on a house that size though.

they didnt say per night. They just said he has gone to vegas and spent 180k at a club. Honestly he could do that 1x per week and be fine.

about 1 million per year I would guess. Plus I know where that house is and they have a hoa. Its like 10k a month. It pays for armed guards and the place is walled up completely. It would survive a zombie attack.
