Dude put the work in an made something, so whatever he gets from it he deserves. Kinda amazing Minecraft hit the way it did. Even if future me went back in time and told me all I have to do is make that simple game and you could have 1.5 billion, I would have had myself committed. Same with Flappy Bird.

The house is fine, that's something he can show for it and enjoy for years to come, but spending 100's of thousands per night on entertainment stuff is pure waste. That's money that's just gone with nothing physical to show for it. Often it's that kind of stuff that drives these people to the ground. At least a house and toys you can sell them and downsize if you have to.

I'd hate to see the tax bill on a house that size though.

Some people like experiences, that's why they go on vacations just to see things. You don't get anything tangible from it, but people still like it. It may seem like a waste to YOU, but he might think it's perfectly worth it.

1181 is a terrible address.
I would pay off the local government and change it to 1337.

His house is amazing, but I like the modern styling in houses.

Who gives a shit how he spends his money? Haters....that's who.

He deserves it more than microsuck does. I hope the game quietly dies off and microsuck is left holding another bag of steaming turd. The game looks so terrible anyway it really needs to die. My kid keeps talking about shader packs and how a new gpu would make it look better, but all the evidence I see is that it hardly does anything for the game. He just wants a new video card...

I dont think anybody "deserves" enough wealth on their own to feed a personal army. Its too much power for any one individual IMO.

However, when extremely wealthy people spend their money, its going back into the economy, and while they might be showing off, they are also putting that money on the table for other households.

*shrug* He made a product that a bazillion people purchased, and then sold the company, and so made a bunch of money. "Deserve" is rather irrelevant in this context. He did do the work, however, so it's easy to say he earned it.

If you insist on assigning morality to his wealth, just because he buys a great big house in Beverley Hills or spends gobs on hookers and blow in Las Vegas doesn't mean he doesn't also do charity. He's donated to Doctors Without Borders, the EFF, probably other stuff as well.

Personally, I'd rather live somewhere more interesting. That house looks like a dentist's office from the front, and like a hotel on the inside. Blech.

People aren't paid what they "deserve". They're paid what they can get.

I'm pretty sure someone making $15,000 a year would think I'm a raging asshole for spending $1,000 in one night in Vegas or $4,000 on a vacation, amounts which are completely affordable to me and not putting me in financial jeopardy in any way. Haters can suck it.

Communist.

I am pretty socialist in some of my thoughts, and Im not too far from endorsing a violent revolution. But, as of yet, I still fall short of your projection. Gimme a few more years stew.

This. Who "deserves" to get paid more than a surgeon who works inhumane hours and under difficult pressures that most people couldn't hack, especially during residency and the first 10 years of practice, given their education and training? People "deserve" to get paid something for their labor which is agreed upon prior to rendering it, and "deserve" to know the risks or other catches. How much they get paid is determined by other factors, none of them have much to do with "deserve".

But if someone wants to make more money, it's easy to identify things will pay them more and multiple pathways or options to getting there.
