When I look at the bottom of my newegg cart I notice this
Tax: $95.49

That meens newegg taxes N.J. - but can't they only do that if they have an actual store?

Online stores have to charge tax if shipping to a state in which they have a warehouse or distribution center.

Yup, and Newegg has warehouses in CA, NJ, and TN. Dang, that is quite a hefty tax.

Because there are a lot of retards who are not born before 1996 on the internet? Egghead is completely different from Newegg. In fact, I hate Egghead so much I'm so glad they went out of business. Think of Egghead as a BestBuy before there was a BestBuy.

You'll get your Newegg soon enough. They're extremely quick on processing orders.

Man, been a long time since I heard the Egghead name. I don't even remember whether they were good or bad but I remember the naming confusion.

I wouldn't call Newegg "extremely" fast on processing. I've had several orders that took through the end of the next day to get processed, even a couple that I paid the 2.99 rapid processing fee and they had to refund it. But they're no worse than any others, and lots better than many.

But I read that if you live in a state with a ware house you will get taxed but your shipping is ussualy a lot faster (not saying it's worth the taxes, but if it's true it sounds like a nice little bonus)

Well sure, UPS doesn't have to load it up on an airplane and fly it to Tennessee (I think that's where their hub is) if you ship it in the same state. Of course if you ask for next-day shipping, they do that anyway. :)

I'd rather get the cheap shipping and no taxes and accept a couple of extra days shipping as the norm, and only pay extra for when I really DO need it as soon as possible. Paying taxes every time is like paying for next day shipping every time you order, even if you don't want to, and doesn't even guarantee you get it that quickly.

Of course, you can't control it either way. And the states would prefer we always pay taxes, preferably for both the shipping state and the state we live in if they're different. And if you live in a non-warehouse state with a sales tax and income tax, you're supposed to report it on your annual taxes and pay the sales tax then.

NJ is 7% tax now I think, sales tax at least.

From my experience as a newegg customer and CA residence, that is true.

Why don't you just order from like ZZF or something? You'd save quite a lot of money and be able to afford a Conroe or something.

I just looked on ZZF and it seems like almost all the parts they have cost a few bucks more each (paying taxes is around the same price) and they don't have a few of those parts at all:disgust:

Stick with Newegg. The few extra $$ is worth the peace of mind. Newegg is excellent.

That's how I see it

and I'm not saying ZZF is bad but only maybe 4/5 of the parts total costs are cheaper on ZZF and by that I meen $20-$30 total savings - don't think it's even worth bothering with 2 sites and differnt shipping times

I'd consider saving 30 dollars worth having some parts come one day and some parts the next day. Everything I saw on ZZF was free shipping too, by fast FedEx. Prices were higher than Newegg even after shipping when I bought my parts so I bought most of them at Newegg, but ZZF had lower prices on a couple of things so I went there (and then screwed around and missed the mail-in dates for the rebates :roll;). I only saved like 5 or 10 bucks, but then Newegg shipped half my parts from NJ and half from CA so they took 3 full days plus the weekend to arrive anyway.

Mobo - ASUS P965 P5B - $150 shipped @ ExcaliburPC
CPU - E6300 - $190 shipped @ ZZF
RAM - 2GB OCZ Gold DDR2-667 RAM - $170 shipped after tax after rebate @ Chiefvalue
Video Card - X1900 AIW 256MB - $215 shipped @ ZZF (dead link on your X1800XT)
PSU - OCZ GameXStream 600W - $120 shipped @ monarch (no rebate)
OS - MS Windows XP Home - $90 shipped @ ZZF
HDD - Seagate 320GB 7200.10 - $95 shipped after tax and discount code BUYBARRACUDA @ Newegg (320GB is only $10 more, so why not go for it)

I'm too lazy to do some other stuff. Basically, you should be able to fit a Conroe into your budget if you just shop around.

I understand, I'll look around at a few places before I buy but Conroe is out of the question either way - not intersted anymore

thanks for those suggestions at the bottom though

I remember when a friend told me that Egghead was going out of business. I had a one word comment: GOOD.

You type in the discount code in when you purchase the item. Why not spring for a Conroe? You can fit it into your budget.

Conroe would be like $90 more if I got an E6300 and $150 motherboard but it feels so useless to me... It's even more money to spend and a X2 3800 is already strong enough to power any video card from what I know

check ZZF - most time their products have free shipping. however, they sometimes are $5 higher than NE (to make up for shipping i guess).
