Does NE1 else think that DC totally fooked up the Dodge Viper's styling?

It's been killing me over the past months as I have pondered what DC has done to the Viper:

http://www.car-truck.com/chryed/feature/03viper.htm

It looks like a Honda S2000 on crack. It has no originality and has a "customer clinic" look to it. The original Viper RT/10 (and later, the even more beautiful GTS) had a style all it's own, but this new Viper looks like crap :(

And don't get me started on the black plastic interior STRAIGHT OUT OF THE FIRST GENERATION ECLIPSE. For $70k+, they could have done better than that.

It may be fast, and powerful as hell, but give me the original GTS, and not this Japanese wannabe.

woah that does look terrible different. You're right on the S2000 part. Looks like a jellybean on wheels.

I never liked viper in the first place, but I think this is an improvement.

I generally prefer the earlier design but I don't think the new one looks bad, just different.

The interior is not any worse than the previous one, and I agree that for $70K it should be better. Frankly I think anyone buying an American sports car knows they are not getting the world's greatest interior fit and finish, but even the Corvette seems much nicer inside than a Viper.

That front end view looks distinctly like the newer camaro ss....

I guess people are refering to the slab sides and more angular creases that define a lot of newer cars today as being unattractive. However, i think it gives the huge steamroller tires a better compliment with bolder styling than the previous form which I always thought looked as if the tires were far too large for the vehicle, especially from the rear.

Wow, I didn't even read your comments NFS4 and I thought the exact same thing - it's a Honda S2000's big brother.

It sucks. They will notice plumetting sales and then kill the car. Then, 10 years later they'll resurrect the Viper in the exact same styling as the 90s one and charge 3 times as much for it;)

I've never liked the design of the Viper (although I admit it is one of a kind)... but I love its performances ;)

1) The hood scoop looks like an afterthought and looks tacked on (unlike the integrated NACA duct on the GTS)
2) The front end it lower and the car is wider giving the whole front a "pancake" look to it
3) From the front, overheard 3/4 view, it looks exactly like an S2000.
4) The huge scoop behind the front wheels is just that...TOO HUGE
5) The splitter, twin diffuser on the rear end looks like crap
6) Side pipes are back on the side. Side, back, side....MAKE UP YOU MIND. And those pipes will surely toast your legs
7) The wheels don't "fit" the car, and they look to chunky
8) The interior is pitch black. No style whatsoever and too plastic. Put some damn carbon fiber or more aluminum in there.
9) After seeing the Concept car for the '03 Viper, this is a big let down. That car was perfect, this one is crap.

They toned it down too much. Now it looks like a general sports car instead of the beast it used to look like. It was much more unique before.

Except they'll make it FWD and put a four cylinder in it. Oh wait. That's what GM would do. Nevermind.

I've never really liked the styling of the Viper. And I still don't like it.

Now we'll have ricers trying to make their S2000's look like a Viper...... The sad thing is that they'll probably look damn similar... and the S2000's performance wouldn't be too far off ether..

I'm willing to bet that if someone was giving it to you, you would take this one too. :)

I think it looks OK, and you can't overlook those horsepower and torque numbers, but This, and this concept was what I was hoping they were going to do with the new Viper. Even though there are a lot of similarities in this concept and the real one, that first picture in the racy trim that IS NOT A CONVERTABLE, is what I wanted.

They shoulda gone with the 2002 GTS concept car? I forget what it was actually called, but it looked really bas ass. You know, there was pictures floating around of it, it was red with silver striping.

WTF?!?!?!?!?

It looks like a new SS FBody! Ed: ack your right...it does look like an S2000 actually...my eyes were immediately drawn to the link...I didn't see your comments....that's even worse than SS FBody...no offense to S2000 owners, it's not a half bad car if you like that sort of car. I loved the old viper's look those. It was one of my favourite looking cars next to the 60s Shelbys....

/me chokes on his indignation

I liked the sorta Retro 60s Cobra look....the big wide flared hood....

This new thing is awful....

It might be nice to some people that didn't used to like the Viper...but to those of that like the Viper this is a slap in the face...

Looks great to me, the old one tried too hard to look aggressive, it looked kind of overdone. The new one looks refined, taughter, smaller and just all around better.
