Does my system meet the requirements for F.E.A.R

It says for F.E.A.R i will need a " A 256 MB Radeon® 9800 Pro or GeForce? FX 5900 or equivalent" I have a 256mb Nvidia 6800, will i be fine?

also it says "Pentium® 4 3.0 GHz or equivalent processor", I have a Pentuim D 830 (3.0 GHz) is that good enough?

Yes it will be enough, for godsakes your system is pretty darn good, do not worry about system requirements.

However you should try to unlock the 4 pipes on your 6800 if you havent done so already.

Those specs sound like a dell 9100 or XPS so I don't think he can unlock them. Those are also the recommended system requirements for FEAR, not the minimum so you should be fine. Of course, don't expect to the game on high settings or maybe even med. Id say at best your system can do 1024x768 all settings medium no AA or FF.

Now that I think about it I think the 256MB 6800 is PCI-E only in which case you cant unlock it.

I think it's pretty depressing, that a fairly good system like this one can only do med settings, i think perhaps games are a little to advanced for current affordable hardware.

wow well that does suck. I like how with consoles you can buy it once for 300 bucks, and the graphics still manage to get alot better (look at splinter cell 1-3)

I hope this doesnt turn into a PC vs Console flame war, but remember that FEAR on med settings 1024x768 would definatly look better than on a console.

My point is that people with somewhat older systems may get the shaft as graphics technology continues to advance to such high levels. i.e. cinematic gaming.

I mean DOOM 3 is fairly old now (well its not new) and yet most people cant play it on older XP and Pentium 4 machines, as well as most people with the lower 9xxx Radeon and 5xxx Geforces are not going to have access to these games.

You'll find the the reason most consoles look better is because of the lower quality of the viewing screen; i.e. the TV you're playing on. If you play games on your TV through your PC, they'll look a bit smoother because of the lower dot pitch of the TV screen.

I prefer my games sharp, though 😉

I only just tried something:

Played FEAR on my 7800GTX SLI, 2GB RAM and X2 4400+ setup, all OCed, but with 16x AA and AF at 1280x1024.

I got average frame rates of about 5fps, dropping down to 1 or less when there was activity.

LOL - and they say you will never use the power of a GTX SLI setup.

Someone needs to learn how to code.
Seriously.

The fear demo ran on my POS dell laptop with integrated graphics. It has a Pentium M 1.7 and some BS Intel graphics. Ran it at med-low setting and it played ok. On my main rig it ran great at high settings with only an ATI X800 XT. Maybe the demo is coded better than the full version of the game???

Odd from what I heard it was the other way around(demo coded worse than the full)

I'm not even happy with my 6800GT... can't imagine trying to play it with a 9800 Pro unless you play it in DX8 mode.

well i recently dl'ed the demo. And on my 6800 it runs very nicely at 1280x1204. I dont the specifics, but i dont see any notciable problems. What do u ppl do to find out fps and stuff?

See for yourself.

FEAR is a fvcking resource hog, lazy programming, COD2 on the other hand runs great on a A64+Radeon 9800 at 1600x1200 with medium details.

I dont have FEAR (yet) but I played the demo on some POS dell laptop with built in vid that uses system mem (128megs) and a 1.7ghz centrino and it ran fine at the lowest settings (which still looked kinda ok). Im sure the retail FEAR differs greatly from the demo but I cant see it not running on your system.

You won't be playing at hi-res or hi details with a 6800nu but at 1024x768 with setting turned down, you should be fine.

I have a A64 3200, 6800gt & 2gb ram.

I run it at 1152 X 864 (which is max- im on a 17in LCD) with everything on high w/ 4X AA. I dont notice the difference with AA and AF higher than 4X so i dont bother.

The game runs smooth w/o any slow downs even in intense fights and looks great. Im not sure how much worse the 6800 Nu is but i think itll manage.

Damn right! This game looks no better than HL2 in my opinion, the physics are similar and all that, but i get 1024*768 4xAA in HL but only 800*600 no-AA in FEAR...
