Does Minoxiil Work?

I'm 32 - I should not look like a fat Captain Picard.

So what's the deal with this stuff? Costco has it pretty cheap, but 1) does it actually work? 2) is it a forever-treatment, or can you taper off when X amount of hair grows back?

What shouldn't you look like? The fat part or the Captain Picard part?

I know plenty of guys in their early 20s who've gone stone cold bald and started shaving their heads before they were 25. Maybe you should work on the fat part.

Minoxidil can work, but it's a commitment. I did not have much luck with 5% solutions, but a 15% solution did accelerate hair growth. Also, the drops were better than foam (Rogaine). Keep in mind if you stop using Minoxidil, any hair you've grown back will start falling out again after about 2 weeks.

I've had a much better experience with finasteride pills. Your doctor can prescribe them for you. I get the 5mg tablets from Walmart Pharmacy for $9 and use a pill cutter. I used to be on the 1mg tablets and that worked fine, but for some reason the 1mg month supply is extremely expensive.

I need to move to the state whree your doctor is my man!! I take the 1mg finasteride pills and 30 cost about $78 here. I tried to convince my doc to give me a supply of 5mg pills, which would of saved me about $800 for the year as I would cut them up. But he would lose his medical license (so he said) as 5mg is only used for people being treated for prostate issues. I should probably go to canada for a day and get someone to give me that script!!
