Does light beer have less alcohol content than it's regular counterpart?

Light = teh suck

Yup! I hate light beer. If I wanted to drink piss flavored water I'd go to the toilet.

Agreed. Really don't see how this fad started here in the states...if you look elsewhere in the world it's rarely even present on the shelves...

My observations:

A. Some light beer is actually pretty decent - but most of it is pretty bad in over all beer terms
B. Some regular/premium beer is absolutely disgusting
C. Most light beer goes down a lot easier when compared to regular, if you can drink more of it and at a faster rate, the slightly lower alcohol content isn't going to hinder your getting messed up.

If I'm drinking a beer to drink a beer I definitely want something good (pretty much never a light or cheap beer) - but when I do this I'm only ever drinking 1, maybe two at most.

If I'm at a party or drinking with my friends to get drunk and I'm drinking beer, then the vast majority is going to be light beer, decent light beer if I can help it (party situations usually supply the cheapest beer possible, don't really have control over that)

In general a 16 oz light beer is equal to a 12 ounce regular beer. same as 4 oz of wine and 1.5 oz of 80 proof spirits.

Eh... some people actually like the taste.

In America, your 'light' beer is light on calories. In Australia, our 'light' beer is light on alcohol. Interesting enough, our 'light' beer is about the same alcohol content as your 'regular' beer.

WTF, that's what light beer is. Stupid question. The reason it has less calories is because of the lower alcohol content. The reason it's marketed in USA as low calories is because Americans are (a) fat and (b) self conscious about it. In NZ, "light beer" means beer with a lower alcohol content.

Yes, of course. Alcohol is about 7 Calories/gram, which is a higher concentation than anything but fat. If you're looking to cut the calories, how do you do it? Cut the alcohol.

I personally prefer the "ice" version of those cheap beers. If i'm drinking it, its to get drunk, not because I enjoy the taste, so why would I want to force myself to drink more of it?

No.. That's ridiculous. Your body can't use alcohol for energy. It's carbohydrates that it has less of. I have no idea why light beer has less alcohol.

Alcohol doesn't have calories? Then explain how a 1.5oz shot of vodka has 100 calories in it. Its true champ, there are calories in alcohol.

Umm, alcohol is one of the purest energy sources your body can burn, it's second only to fats in calories by weight.

*shrug* I like Amstel Light (first and foremost), Bud Select, and Michelob Ultra. Not tried many other beers; had a Guiness and hated the taste. I'll try more as I can, but I'm happy with what I have.
