Does it take long to get used to a new mouse?

Or is it one of these depends on the person things? I just got my G9x and ive been messing around with it, its 100x better than the last laser mouse i tried, POS micorsoft habu which razer still sell under a different name i gather, awful lift off distance, bad bad bad mouse.

Anyways the lift off distance on this G9x is excellent, just like my old MX518, its comfy enough to use, the buttons are in a much better position for me as i used to the the forward/backward buttons as grenade/melee but on the mx518 the forward button is a bit too far forward to be all that useful so i never really threw many grenades.

I cant decide if i like it or not though. I think its just all the settings i need to get used to, theres windows own mouse settings, the logitech setpoint software (which is best between those? i have no idea) and then theres always an in game setting too... im used to just plugging the mouse in and whacking the windows sensitivity up to max then enabling pointer precision. Ive tried it in BC2 and im still able to shoot chopper out of the sky and generally kill people but if i miss i keep thinking "damnit i mightve hit him if i had the other mouse" :|Guess i need more time to find the sweet spot with this G9x and get out of the mentality of its the mouses fault i missed lol.

There are a lot of differing opinions on how you should set the mouse. With a G5, I use setpoint (it's gotten much better in just the last 6 months), windows settings at default speed, pointer precision OFF, no acceleration, do not enable smart move, DPI at 400/1000/2000 (editing, desktop, gaming), and use the in-game slider for individual games.

Okay after a few games, this mouse is awesome, i tried the MX518 again and i just cant use it anymore, it sucks for my grip! G9x is what i shouldve been using all along, apparently im a claw gripper. Fantastic mouse, i only hope it lasts as long as the MX518 did

if it takes long to get used to, its likely the wrong mouse for you because its obviously forcing you to change your grip

of course its arguable someone could be using the wrong grip in the first place

basically it all comes down to the balance between comfort and performance, which is very subjective

but since I know my preferred grip (finger) I can tell immediately whether or not I will like a mouse, of course I have also had the luxury of owning over dozen different models to hone in on what works best for me

You don't need to turn sensitivity all the way up in Windows. That's just creating interpolation unnecessarily. Set the slider on the 6th notch and adjust speed using the DPI setting of the mouse itself.

Also, I like to keep pointer precision turned on- helps with sniping.

Depends on how outrageous it is. For me, one good day of gaming. For office use, about 5 minutes.

You had some nasty nasty habits on your other mice. I'm not sure if BC2 uses DirectInput or not, but you can expect massive gains on anything that doesn't use it if you follow my advice.

First thing you need to do is set your windows sensitivity to 6/11 (default). There is never a reason to go higher than this, and only 2 reasons to drop to 4/11: (never 5/11) the 1800DPI DeathAdder or a mouse without adjustable DPI.

The next thing is to turn off acceleration within windows. Uncheck the pointer precision box. This unfortunately may screw you up for a few days as you might not be used to perfect 1:1 movement, but once you get used to it you WILL be a better player.

I haven't used Setpoint in a very long time, but I'm guessing that it has its own controls for sensitivity and acceleration. Double check that acceleration is off and sensitivity is at default.

I have seen drift control enabled on some G9 mice as well. Now would be a great time to make sure that your mouse's firmware has this "feature" off.

The last word of advice that I can give you is to not use anything that changes the sensitivity or DPI of the mouse on the fly. I'm sorry to offend everyone that does this, but its for bads. Find something that is comfortable for you and stick with it.

Why would you not change sensitivity on the mouse? How much sensitivity you want depends on the game. For example I use max sensitivity in Sim City and strategy games, but for FPS I usually turn it down one notch.

Cool, ill try without the windows precision on, i had to lower it to 4/11. Whats wrong with 5/11 in the windows settings?

you just have to tweak the sensitivity/dpi settings more.
auto profile switching is nice

I bought Razer Lachesis 5600 recently and i have a feeling, i still cant get used to it. I had Creative 3500 mouse before it, which was classical right handed mouse. Lachesis does have a completely different shape though and despite the fact it feels good on touch (because of the rubberised layer on top), i do not think i can hold it in a relaxed way. Last few days i felt even pain in the middle of my palm and when i went to sleep, i felt my arm/shoulder too. Do you think this may be related to the mouse?

Yes, it's definitely the mouse. The symmetrical shape is not ergonomic at all- the only reason they make them like that is so both left and right handers can use the mouse.

Return it and get an ergonomic right handed mouse!

Set it to 6/11 and adjust the DPI on the mouse itself. That way Windows doesn't have to do any adjustments.

BTW, with the Logitech software you can add more steps. My G9 came with 4 settings, and I expanded that to 5 because the gap between the top 2 DPIs was too big.

Depends on the games you play and key placements.
If you play games that require muscle memory for even basic things, its going to take a while to get use to if the buttons are moved to much.
If they don't, it should be quick.

I just replaced my 7 year old Razer Copperhead which I really liked (I use my finger tips. which Razer seem to cater towards) to the G9x, took me a day to get it setup right and now I'm very happy with it. I started using the "precision" grip right away after just feeling the two out of the package and really like it, but may swap the other standard one on just to give it a shot.

I have enhance pointer precision off, and 6/11 sensitivity. Also I always find I like the feel better if I turn mouse sensitivity all the way down in the game options and use the highest DPI that I feel comfortable with.

With a mouse I have found that if you don't like it when you first start using it then you probably never will. I used to buy mouse that had a good recommendation from others and try to adapt to it because if everyone else is using it , then it must be a great mouse. WRONG. If you don't like how it feels or works, get another one. It is a very user specific item.

It is just like keyboards. I have about 10 of them because I have large hands and some have the keys too close. I am now using a logitech G15 but it isn't my favorite . I actually like the cheaper microsoft media pro keyboard. The logitech hurts my hands after a few hours.
