Depends. Busload of orphans and puppies goes off a cliff that's sad.

Drunk guy with a camcorder says "Hey Bubba, watch this" and then dies in a hilariously Darwinian manner then not even a little bit sad.

Strawberry Lemonade
's death somehow affected me as strongly as any of the more prominent characters, so I voted yes.

People I don't know literally die every second. I consciously know this. If I got sad over them, I'd probably have killed myself by 1st grade. 😛

I have asked myself why I don't get all that sad even when someone relatively close dies... like my grandfather recently. I feel like I should, but don't. Something seems wrong. When I was younger I was always around him. Now my other grandfather is in poor health but I don't have any feelings towards that either. My grandma was on her death bed (cancer) with us surrounding her and my cousins were balling their eyes out. I left early to go make a hockey game. Honestly, it was just because I felt no obligation to be there. Again I feel like this should be wrong. Or a good thing perhaps to save from hurt. It's not like I'm secretly crying afterwards though.

Depends on how close you were. My grandfather died last August, nice funeral at Arlington National Cemetary, my dad/uncle/grandmother were balling their eyes out. I, who have only seen my grandfather on that side for maybe three weeks total spread across my entire life, didn't shed a tear or feel any desire to really. I was sad, but in a very sympahtetic way and not much for my own sake.

i guess sometimes i do, but most of the time i dont. felt sad for princess di, the old pope, regan. and superman. and joker. and billy mays. and the croc hunter.

Never knew acemcmac (Richard Smith) but it was sad to hear about his death in this forum. Such a young life so suddenly snuffed out by a drunken driver. 🙁

Like everyone said, those Darwin Awardees make it different on how they met their demise in their own hands. I pity the fools.

I really surprised myself a few years ago. Someone I knew of died, and I actually shed a few tears. I had never known the person, I had never met the person, I had never even seen the person, even on video or in photos.

Depends. I was bummed that Andy Whitfield (Spartacus) died, for example. That's likely because I took the time to watch the show and read up on him. It's not like I'm all "oh the huge manatee!" though.

Over 150,000 people I do not know die every single day.

I think that sums up my answer to this poll question pretty definitively.

Busload of puppies....they won't have the chance to bark in my neighborhood late at night!

If you are not in my monkeysphere, I simply cannot be sad about it.
