Does Home Depot cut wood?

I wanna mount an amp + other stuff I bought in my trunk, but don't have access to wood cutting tools. I need like a 25x15" cut (guesstimating.)

Also, do they sell carpeting to cover the wood?

Heading there in about 10 minutes, but it would be nice to know beforehand.

Most can cut planks to a certain length, but it looks like you need one ripped(cut lengthwise, I don't think they sell 15" planks, and the planks aren't exactly the advertised width either) which they won't do, and I can't say I'd recommend doing it yourself. I imagine the same rules apply for lowes, they're basically the same store.

If you can get by with 24x15, grab one of their pre-cut 2x2 plywood panels, and they will happily cut it it down from 24x24 to 24x15.

You still have to buy the whole piece of wood, but yes they'll do basic cuts for you.

I usually get wood cut so I can get it to fit in my car. I did discover through trial and error that an 8 foot 2x6 as well as 8 foot 1x16 DOES fit in my car, though. over 5 of em, in fact. I would never try this with a newer car though, I can't say I got it in without any scratches. 😛 I badly want a truck but can't afford it.

They do cut to specifications, but I think I recall a sign saying they will not do precision cuts. So like, they'll probably do nn inches but they wont do something extremly precise where every mm counts. I also think they'll only do a few basic cuts for you until they charge per cut. I did not get charged when I wanted a cut but it was only a few long pieces of wood I wanted cut shorter. So it was just one cut as they cut them all at once and there was no measuring required, I just said I want it cut "here".

what kind of amp and equipment did you get? will be ineterested to see photo's when your done.
Though if you need more cuts than what they do, you could always rent some tools. router and saw won't be too expensive to rent for half a day.

Mine does. It's like 20 cents a cut.

The one closest to me will do "rough cuts" for things like plywood, but if the dimensions are wrong...it's "not their fault."

Sounds like this is more a matter of individual store policy than corporate policy.

They wont cut something smaller than 12x12 or something like that.

Give the guy some extra cash in hand and tell him to get it as close as possible. If you give him some money before hand he will actually try.

I have to have wood cut down to fit in my car. I can fold down the back seat and fit several eight foot lengths of lumber. I've had older cars where I've strapped paneling and sheet rock to the roof. 😱

What really kills me is that I've owned several pick up trucks. I just got used to hauling stuff without a second thought. Oh! ... I really should have had that bumper sticker that says, "Yeah, this is my truck, and no, I won't help you move."

They cut planks pretty accurately. If you're trying to get a sheet cut, expect 1/8" error and don't expect it to be a perfect 90 degree angle.

Good enough for most things, but not everything.

Every Home Depot and Lowes I've been to cut wood. And they'll cut a reasonable amount for free (I've done 10-15 cuts before). Its only when you make a large contractor size order that they actually charge you (I ordered 50 4x4s of a certain length and got charged).

I've got cut wood.

I've been told its corporate policy not cut anything under 12".

I rent Home Depot's pickup truck for $25 whenever I need to bring home oversized items like a 4x8' sheet of plywood.

They will cut wood for you. But don't expect them to know how to run a saw. I was standing there nearly laughing at them trying to cut a sheet of ply with a circular saw. They would not let me do it, or even help them. Idiots. It ended up about 1/2 in out of square and not a straight line. Even after i had to show them how to use a measuring tape.
