Does Dick Dawkins hate Iceland? I havent heard this "atheist leader" chime in how religion has caused the volcano to blow.

scientists don't use supernatural mumbo jumbo to explain natural events--the occurrence of which are fully understood and quite predictable.

commie socialist devil-loving, homo-supporting government that self-destructed?

just a thought.
No, not socialist. Iceland became the playground for the Reagan economic policies:

From wiki:

Milton Friedman made a great impact on a group of young intellectuals in the Independence Party, including Davíð Oddsson who became Prime Minister in 1991 and began a radical program of monetary and fiscal stabilization, privatization, tax rate reduction... definition of exclusive use rights in fisheries, abolition of various government funds for aiding unprofitable enterprises and liberalization of currency transfers and capital markets. In 1975, Iceland had the 53rd freest economy in the world, while in 2004, it had the 9th freest economy, according to the Economic Freedom of the World index designed by Canada's Fraser Institute.

Icelands economy failed because they basically became Tea Baggers.

Dick Dawkins is by no means a scientist, but he is a loudmouth attention whore which is quite common among atheists. To support my thesis:

Just look at the OP, no one has said anything of the kind on the planet - other than him - because he, like Dick Dawkins, is an attention whore of the highest magnitude. So he creates this flaming piece of troll bait to get what he wants and that is attention.

Case closed. :colbert:

As the OP, I posted a legitimate question in comparative religious beliefs.
It occurred to me I have often seen American religious leaders say natural disasters are caused by God as punishment for certain behaviors.
I was curious if people believed this, as it applies to another country.

It's only a "troll" if you think anyone commenting on religious leaders explanation of natural disasters is in itself something that would appear to be a negative connotation.

Reportedly Rush Limbaugh said it's because the Icelandic leader is a lesbian.

Alright, I don't really like Rush Limbaugh, and he's more annoying than anything else, but have you ever listened to his show? A large percentage of what he says is just dripping with sarcasm.

It's completely obvious when you listen to it.

I'm no huge fan of Dawkins....but the bolded statement is, well, completely asinine. Whatever criteria you use to define someone as a scientist are irrefutably worthless.

He is a bit of an attention whore, but the rationalists out there do need someone with a brain to counteract the Pat Robertson, Jerry Faldwell-type ignorant pussbags of the world.

The rampant anti-intellectualism popularized by the mobilized fundy base is not something to be honored. It is a fucking poison on humanity.

Dawkins is the Krakken awakened and unleashed on your uneducated brethren who chose to cram their mindless, archaic world view down the throats of a humanity that needs to progress. Everyone knows this.

To clarify, it's self-evident bullshit, and everyone knows it. To bring it up as a topic of conversation is to expose one of the many soft spots in the religious way of thinking to attack. To even state it with no apparent opinion whatsoever can be seen as an attack because seeing it in plain language reveals it for the ridiculousness that it is, even to those who would defend it. So many religious ideas have that aspect.

Which they may or may not have grounds for. In a sense, they do, but not one of them (or us) can say that this particular earthquake here, or hurricane there, is a direct result of this issue here or there. Nobody knows that. Anyone who says they do is making it up.

But then, we all know that the hurricanes one year was because earth was mad at Bush.

:hmm:

The basic mistake of the OP and your post is that Christianity is not defined by the lunatic fringe. It is not about the Pat Robertsons and Jerry Faldwells (you forgot Westboro Baptist by the way). If anyone thinks that is the case, they are quite mistaken and have taken an extreme and indefensible position. Any attempt to argue otherwise, no matter how feable, is simply blind rhetoric spouted by an extremist.

It comes down to 2 possibilities:

1) Iceland made a deal with the Devil
2) This is Iceland's second wave in an attempt to conquer the World

For calling themselves Iceland but there isn't really that much ice. It has more green land than Greenland does.

It is like they had it all planned out to confuse people.

I dont think its fair to call moss on lava fields green. Just doesnt do it for me.

God is real and vindictive because we have these kinds of threads.

Everyone knows this.
