The two people calling Vian a troll, are trolling themselves. How hypocritical is that?

Game runs good for me. 1280x1024 with all details turned up, AA set to "medium" in game, I get about 40'ish frames. Dipping lower in heavy battles, higher when Im walking alone. 9800XT,1gig DDR 520 & 3.9gig P4.

im pointing out the fact that he is a troll so nobody takes him seriously. if there is a convicted rapist in my neighborhood and i inform my neighbors that there is a rapist living amongst us, that doesnt make me a rapist.

LOL

Nothing requires that much vram and wont for at least another 6 monts to 1.5 years.

I am guessing upping your system ram would help a bit more.
I'm sorry but, no. You are totally wrong.

I have a Gig of RAM and a 5900. I can run it at 1280x1024x32@85Hz Vsync w/2xAA,4xAF Performance and Everything Low ingame except for Texture Quality and Water Quality that are on Medium. In my opinion, they are the most visiually improving settings. Anything else would be pushing it. I think this game needs either a higher processor, or a card with a crap load of fill-rate. There are no benchmarks on this game yet which is beyond me. It kills 500 dollar cards. I think ATI would rule in this one if my fill-rate theory is true. We also need that 256MB or VRAM.

Where are them damn benchies?!

That is one of most moronic comparisons I have ever seen.

no, but you ARE trolling, which doesn't really give us anything to take you seriously about either. since your post adds NADA to the discussion, ackmed has a valid point.

to the OP, i imo it has more to do with cpu/system memory than video card memory, altho 256mb vram may help a bit.

I just downloaded it last night and it runs silky smooth on my 5900.

Currently I havent toyed with it much but I set the res at 1600X1200 and did medium AA.
I set the textures and almost everything but shadows to high. I set shadows to low. The only time it seems to get real slow is when you look at the wake of the boat. For some reason it just chugs, but not like the whole screen jerky kind of thing. More like it feels like you are stuck in a web or something.

Overall the graphics are really nice. I toyed around in the boat and drove around some of the islands. With the lighting and colors it almost felt like I was on the beach lol!

What the hell? Tell him your wrong, but you don't give any proof. VIAN, STFU. You don't even agree with yourself.

Activision recommends 256MB of VRAM to set everything to high and have the best experience. That is one game out of a few. BFG knows about 2-3 more.

Hey, VIAN where in gods name does Activision have anything to do with Far Cry! Thats right, nothing!

Nothing requires that much vram and wont for at least another 6 monts to 1.5 years.

Just showing him something where that much VRAM is ustilized right now. He is mistaken if thinks nothing requires that much. In about 6 months though it will be required. Which is why I started to tell people to buy the 256MB versions of the high end cards. In 1.5 years the indroduction of 512 might be upon us. Maybe another .5 years later than that.

You didnt prove anything! Most people buying any 256MB are ethuastic gamers, which I highly doubt will be keeping that card! We've got PCI-Express coming. You won't even give any evidence of anything proof that games have benifits of a 256MB Card!

Hey, I know that there are crazy mofo's out there that buy the 256MB cards so that they can do 1600x1200 with full AA and AF. That can't be done in a couple of games with just 128MB, so - games DO benefit from it.

resolution is an issue with memory bandwidth, not memory capacity. AA & AF performance is deteremined in part by the GPU power as well as memory bandwidth. none of those factors are significantly affected by memory capacity that i am aware of.

the benefit of memory capacity for the most part is being able to deal with larger and/or more detailed textures. while these are also affected by memory bandwidth, the amount of bandwidth avail today and the compression techniques used make that less problematic than with older cards.

It ran decent on low settings with my OC'd (300/560) GF4 Ti4200 at 1024 x 768. Everything on low settings though. With the 9500 PRO (stock speeds), it runs a bit smoother. Not nearly as much lag as with the GF4 when you fire the guns or if there is a lot of action. The game is much more playable with the 9500 PRO. I still can't really bump the settings though. If I bump the AA in the game, I get polygon city with the 9500PRO for some reason. When I bump the AA with the GF4, I just get really choppy framerates is all. Maybe I have to enable it in the cards settings instead with the ATI. I'm using a XP 2400+ with 512 mb's of PC2700 RAM btw..

Internet flaming tip #1: When calling someone stupid, make sure you know the difference from 'your' and 'you're'. It only makes YOU look stupid.
