also i never understood why when you print a pdf it shows up as ten times the size in the print spooler.

			basically every adobe product has been insufferable to me for years.  im baffled why they continue to have widespread adoption.
		
		
	 
Inertia. Within an industry that needs to pass imagery around, you need to be compatible with everyone else. Other agencies, clients, print partners, etc.
You should have seen how long it took InDesign to replace Quark in the print industry, even though Quark was an absolutely TERRIBLE company to deal with in those days, and one whose product was VASTLY inferior to InDesign. Quark might still be hanging on if Adobe hadn't basically given ID away with CS. It's only when it started being bundled that it really started getting any traction.
It took Adobe buying Macromedia out to win the market share those apps (Flash, Freehand, Dreamweaver, etc) had.
