I think it does, though I've been using Foxit Reader for the past few years.

Yes, it does.

Thank architects asking for 3D format support and anyone who ever suggested rich media support. The last few versions have been pushing into medical imaging support.

PDF is compressed, .ps or your printer's favorite language isn't?

Inertia. Within an industry that needs to pass imagery around, you need to be compatible with everyone else. Other agencies, clients, print partners, etc.

You should have seen how long it took InDesign to replace Quark in the print industry, even though Quark was an absolutely TERRIBLE company to deal with in those days, and one whose product was VASTLY inferior to InDesign. Quark might still be hanging on if Adobe hadn't basically given ID away with CS. It's only when it started being bundled that it really started getting any traction.

It took Adobe buying Macromedia out to win the market share those apps (Flash, Freehand, Dreamweaver, etc) had.

Foxit is great if all you need is basic viewing/printing caps. Otherwise you need the bloated to the gills version. Calling it acrobat is like calling a snail a cheetah.

It's a victim of its own success. The added compatibility and security patches in each successive version made it more and more bloated.

I use Evince. It's pretty big at 30mb, but it works, and is libre. For editing, demand .odf. That's what it's intended for.

Yes, it is horrendous.
I remember there being a 3rd party program that allowed you to remove all the extra Acrobat crap so it loaded faster.

You're right about the print dialog box though. It probably has something to do with network printers. (loading all the printer data for all printers before the preview appears)

I still have most of the older versions, 3 through 9. They work fine on XP and Win7.
