Do they? Their monitors a few years ago were outstanding. Are they even better, or the best?

A Dell U2412M arrives this afternoon. It has been highly praised here on Anandtech. I'll let you know tomorrow my impression.

I just ordered a P2414H last night. I don't know if Dell makes the best monitor, I suspect someone like Eizo probably holds that title. Dell does however seem to make a variety of very good monitors at very compelling prices. I have a P2412H and a P2411H on my desk at work and I don't have any complaints with them, minus the overly aggressive AG coating.

I use a few U2412M's and Asus PB248Q's across different workstations at work, I'd say they are basically the same image quality (bare eye test). Asus probably a slight edge overall because of the USB 3.0 hub.

Did your dell u2414m arrive? Is it any good?

FWIW I am running 2 U2412m's and an NEC 24" 2490WUXi2 in a triple monitor setup. The Dell's are both great, though there is significant difference in color and brightness relative to the NEC. If you aren't in need of absolute color accuracy I think the U2412M is a great monitor that can be had at a very good price. Hell, the NEC cost me more than 3 U2412M's would (at least at the price I paid for them).

You're under the impression that Dell ever made "the Best Monitors"?
Can you add any qualifiers to clarify your question?

Yes - the brown van dropped it off on time. Unpack and set up was very straight forward and easy. I calculated the space for the 24-in monitor just right - a half inch clearance on either side.

Connected to existing DVI and powered up. It literally self installed - correct res at 1900x1220. Very impressive. Now I have to get used to such a large screen after 12 years on a 19-incher.

Am currently running it on 8.1. This machine is multi-boot - 7 and 8.1. Have not yet switched it to 7. That will be later on.

Bottom line - it all works perfectly as advertised.

Dell has never been known to make the best monitors. They have a great warranty and more or less painless policies.

I run a NEC LCD2490WUXi (original with polarizer)

Do you mean the U2414H? I don't think there is a U2414M. You probably meant U2412m with 1920x1200 resolution?

Sorry to go OT but has anyone run into the issue I have seen with various laptops... The manufacturer of the laptop can put virtually any brand of display panel in. So you may read a glowing review of XXX laptop then you order it and get a horrible panel from a different panel manuf.
To OP from what I have read Dell puts out great monitors for the prices they charge. & sorry to HiJack the thread

Dell still has the best warranty which is why I stay with them.

I want to know more about this angle before I invest in 1440P, etc. My next monitor is going to be a whopper and warranty/support is a big deal to me.

I've got a year old Dell S2340M that I'm very happy with at 1600 x 900. It's a lower-end IPS model; $140 on sale at Newegg at the time.

However----I had an inexcusably pathetic customer service issue with Dell on a 19 inch CRT monitor about 7 years ago. It was under warranty and went bad. I had to make 11 phone calls to India over a period of a week to get it replaced. I had to initiate every call--I was never called back.

I swore I'd never buy anything from Dell again and I haven't. I fool myself by saying "well you bought the S2340M from Newegg, not Dell, so it's kinda different".

My sympathies if you have to deal with Dell directly for customer service.

I have an old Dell crt type (sony based tube) monitor (17 inch) from around 2001 ... still working like day one. Never an issue with it, crisp colors and fonts.

"Best" is a very subjective term.......especially for visual things like monitors :)

Best for who ? You or someone else ? What you think is best for you may be deemed unacceptable by the next person...

But FWIW, Dell does have a reputation for making really good monitors overall (unlike their pc's, but thats a whole other story) and they have pretty good customer service & warranties too, which helps add to their above average ratings by most people.

I have used numerous brands over the past 20 years, and I personally prefer Apple, Samsung and Sharp, but thats just ME........

I own a single Dell 29" Ultrawide Ultrasharp 4K monitor. It is really good...it is wide and big also. With Windows 8.1, with the split screen feature, I can search the internet on one side while editing photos.

Size of a monitor <> resolution.

I think you may be confused.

There is a 29'' ultrasharp ultra-wide monitor, but it is sort of by definition not 4k since it uses a wider aspect ratio than 16:9.

4k = 3840x2160, aspect ratio is 16:9.

The 29'' ultra-wide is 2560x1080, aspect ratio is 21:9.
