Does Cyber Monday actually exist?

Cyber Monday, otherwise known as "The Monday following Black Friday" doesn't make sense to me anymore. During a time when a lot of people didn't have home internet access, but did have internet access at work, it made perfect sense. Why would people wait until Monday now? Or shop especially strong on any day for that matter?

Maybe I just didn't look hard enough, but I didn't see deals on anything that would interest me. As an awkward term for the media to print up, "Cyber Monday" is bigger than ever. According to the story Hitwise has sent to every media outlet it is bigger than ever. But is Monday really a big day anymore or are those just reflections on overall online sales growth?

My belief is that it was a myth that became perpetuated by many companies on the internets....

Now that it has been perpetuated by them, its the truth and there is actually now a "Cyber Monday"

A number of places had good deals on Monday. Picked-up a couple of computer cases FAR and a motherboard normally $180 for $115.

Traffic on retail sites rose 26% on Cyber Monday compared to the same day last year, Web site metrics company Hitwise found in its survey, while comScore reported that Cyber Monday sales reached $733 million this year. The day is referred to as Cyber Monday because of a sharp increase in online shopping that day.

"On Cyber Monday, consumers reminded retailers that there's nothing like a bargain to motivate people to spend," Scott Silverman, executive director of Shop.org, said in a prepared statement. "The holiday season is off to a strong start, but the challenge for online retailers now becomes finding ways to keep Cyber Monday shoppers coming back all holiday season long."

Cyber Monday, a term coined by Shop.org in 2005, began after online retailers noticed a trend of people shopping online on the Monday after Thanksgiving. Since then, consumers have flooded Web sites on Cyber Monday and come to expect robust promotions and specials that day.
