Bush is definitly a small business owner. He turns any large business he inherits into a small one.

factcheck.org:
"President Bush himself would have qualified as a "small business owner" under the Republican definition, based on his 2001 federal income tax returns. He reported $84 of business income from his part ownership of a timber-growing enterprise. However, 99.99% of Bush's total income came from other sources that year. (Bush also qualified as a "small business owner" in 2000 based on $314 of "business income," but not in 2002 and 2003 when he reported his timber income as "royalties" on a different tax schedule.) "

that means if 0.01% of your income is related to a small business, you're automatically a small business owner. Gotta love that Republican Corporate Welfare

A Bush-Cheney '04 ad claims Kerry would raise taxes on 900,000 small businesses and "hurt jobs." But it counts every high-salaried person who has even $1 of outside business income as a "small business owner" -- a definition so broad that even Bush and Cheney have qualified while in office. In fact, hundreds of thousands of those "small businesses" have no jobs to offer.
so since 100% of the companies dont have jobs to offer, the entire thing is ok? (and whats to say that with lower taxes, the small business couldn't grow to offer jobs later on?) out of 900,000 small busniesses, I'd imaging quite a few of them make more than $84, nice try in breaking it down to black and white.

Furthermore, by the Bush definition 32 million "small businesses" would see no tax increase.
thats a good thing right? and btw, I thought the ad was about the Kerry's definition, not Bush's
The ad doesn't mention that, of course. Nor does it mention Kerry's proposals for some tax cuts specifically targeted for small businesses.
he has a tax cut aimed at small business and a higher tax also aimed at small business? sheesh, you should be thankful the ad didnt mention that.

Huh? A partnership could mean anything....he doesn't own a lumber company.

I guess I'll be the contrarian then. I don't think $87 makes one a timber tycoon. Based on that logic and my royalties from mutual funds, I could probably be accused of owning a tabaco company, a software company, etc...
No... but he CLAIMED it, and took the tax cut.

I got a $127 check from Microsoft for some minor contract work our company did for them. Looks like I own Microsoft!! WOOHOO!!!!! :D

Under Bush's small business number of 900,000 you do.

Under Kerry's small business number of 417,000 you don't.

So did you claim any other "deductibles" that were the "expenses" for your "ownership" of Microsoft? I'm sure you took advantage of that loophole like most other millionairs did. ;) :cookie: for you. But yeah, getting paid by doing work is far from having partnership for $84. Nice try.

He definately lied tonight about the timber company and it proves how people can manipulate almost anything. Bush said that small business owners would be effected by the tax roll-back and he was using himself earning $84 in the statistics as a small business owner LOL. What a crook.

Fun pics. Would have have had more fun with the idea though if he'd owned a piece of the old "Mustang Ranch" in Nevada.

Gore got more votes than Bush. Therefore, the correct assertion would be, many MORE Americans look up to Gore than Bush. ;)

Saying that many ppl look up to him doesn't mean much. There are plenty of dumb ppl. How many smart ppl/academics look up to him?

Train, please read the factcheck article - it points out the hypocrisy of the right using the 900,000 number much more effectively than you mock the lumber co. issue...

Wouldn't you think the debate prep might want to stay away from numbers that have been refuted online before the debate takes place?

Why is this the first I've heard of a $250+M tax refund for Enron?
