What top 25 teams are you counting for Florida? Auburn, LSU, and Arkansas are all top 25 teams, while Tennessee is a borderline top 25 team after their loss and Georgia is a borderline top 25 team after their win. Including a win over Ohio State, Florida would have 4 top 25 wins guaranteed, and possibly 6.

bcs is boogie. playoff is too much for a season that already spans past the fall semester. they should just go back to old school system of bowl alliances (ie rosebowl prefers pac10&big10) and hand off 1 ap championship at the end

why does everyone think a playoff system will be the end all be all magical solution to determining the #1 team, as if that is even really possible? if anything, playoffs will create more confusion and exaggerate existing problems, and give worse teams a shot at winning it all, to say the least.

College football used to be about winning your conference and beating your rivals, maybe playing in an extra game (bowl) for fun. Now everyone has an obsession with trying to indisputably determine the #1 team.

Auburn beat Florida. 🙂

I think he is trying to stretch his case a bit. Unless I'm blind, Boise St. beat two teams that are currently ranked (Oregon St and Oklahoma). Hawaii isn't ranked at the moment, but that could change on a last poll. And even then, their claim to fame is going to be having beaten a 10-3 Oklahoma team which arguably won't even be in the top 10.

Especially if Florida beats Ohio State, Boise St. and Florida will BOTH sport 3 wins over top-25 teams and an impressive bowl win. The difference is that Boise St. will be undefeated 🙂

I think the AP poll should vote them number 1 if that happens, and maybe even if Ohio State wins. They deserve it. They showed they can beat anybody.

Thoughts?

Too many "if's". OSU is undeafeted playing tougher teams.

I think the history of the sport gets lost on fans, especially younger ones.

It was never meant to be a 100+ team "league" playing for a single championship. These were school clubs playing regional school clubs... they play within their conference, and bowl games are bonus rewards

But now the money and television got in the way.

1) Florida did not beat Auburn
2) Tennessee most likely will fall out of the top-25.
3) Georgia will not make the top-25
4) Arkansas will be a lower top-25 team than Oregon State.

Either way, perhaps Florida's schedule strength was better, but that only cancels out the fact that they are not undefeated.

What fun is sports if there is no winner/champion?

there are winners....Boise is the WAC champ (something like 5 years in a row now, too) and Fiesta Bowl Champ. NC is messed up, and everybody knows the BSC is just hosed.

Won't happen because Ohio will massacre Florida.

Not so sure, I think the Big-10 was sort of exposed when Michigan lost to USC. Who have they played? A decent Texas team? An exposed Michigan team?

If anybody's schedule strength should be questioned, it should be Ohio State's.

Florida's lack of a consistant running back will be their downfall. The UF defense will keep it close & respectable but OSU will emerge victorious.

Michigan could beat them...

So would OSU and USC

in a 1 game scenario you can never say that for sure, after usc's defeat to ucla most people would have bet on michigan to easily beat usc, but the opposite happened, boise state certainly deserves a shot

People overrated Michigan's win against a highly overrated ND team. They also seemed to overlook the fact that the closeness (is that a word?) of the OSU/UM game was primarily because it's a rivalry game.

DING! DING! DING!
Any arguments to having a playoff system will always be drowned by the loudness of filthy money. School presidents are supposed to be the soul of the NCAA but they will always be hostage to the booster clubs and the nameless few who want (and profit) from the current bowl system. No president will keep his job if he votes against a system that awards million dollar payoffs for a BCS berth.

And their obscene mantra of a "playoffs are harmful to the student" is just that - obscene. How long since Ohio State has played a game? 40 days? And what were these students doing on these off days, studying? No, to them it is August all over. They're doing two a days and watching films nightly.

But public opinion does have some hold. Organizations have left the BCS because they realize what a sham it is. And before Boise State there were teams like my old school, Marshall, that went undefeated, and then beat the crap out of BYU in a bowl that barely covered their expenses. At the end, the polls gave the a #10 final season ranking and a pat on the head. This team and a few others made the BCS folks change their formula to allow a mid-major a chance at a BCS bowl. But harder than a major, these teams will get a spot only if they have an undefeated season. It is conceivable that a major could be in a BCS bowl if they are two games above 500.

There are reasons why there are BCS conferences and the have-nots. And these reasons do not include the abilities of a team.

Oh, and Barry Switzer is still an ass.

Why is the Big-10 exposed by one loss to a Pac-10 team, but you don't consider the SEC exposed by 2 losses to an "exposed" Big-10?

They beat 3 top-25 teams. If Florida wins, they will have beaten 3 top-25 teams as well. The difference is that Boise St. will be UNDEFEATED. That makes them better.

Which 3? Oklahoma, Oregon State, and #28 Hawaii?

If you count Hawaii, you have to count #26 Georgia for Florida, because they beat a better opponent in their bowls. LSU will be higher then Oklahoma win or lose, and probably #3 if they win.

I read an article where the Michigan coach implied USC was better than Ohio State. I'm sure if they played USC would beat them like a drum.
All of the midwest and eastern football people have a bias against the west.
And I noticed all of the athletic black players on Boise St, are they homegrown talent or are they all hired guns recruited from California, Florida and NY?
I'm in favor of a new NCAA rule requiring half of all athletic scholarships be given to players from the colleges' own state.

So if I've been in Texas all but the last year of high school and wanted to play football at Texas after moving to Illinois, I will have a less chance to get accepted plus the scholarship?

That's because Lloyd Carr is a bitter old man who hasn't been able to coach his way to a win in the big games in quite awhile.
