we used to be higher than that

I think you're right.

I think this place has slowed down a lot ever since they made a bunch of break out forums for every little topic rather than it just all falling under Off-Topic.

Partially, but I think the bigger issue is the drop in "build your own" and tweaking of computers. Now you can buy very well equipped computers for $300 from Dell. The incentive to "DIY" and overclock just isn't there like it was. So you have less people seaking out hardware reviews and discussions.

So we have lost out on a lot of growth because of that.

basically the forums were more riotous and exciting and filled with more variety. basically some people decided that the forum shouldn't just be work safe, but child safe and politically correct:p more like safe for tiny tots. so its been nerfed, balkanized and banned into the mild mannered forum it is now.

May not be the largest, but it's still the best IMO.

It's a little more complicated than that. This place is a direct link to and from the main site. Anandtech is a legitimate company company with an image to uphold. Sponsors and vendors do look at these boards and see what sort of discussions are being held and it does make an impact on their decisions.

This forums goal is not to be a something aweful or an offtopic.net free for all. We try to keep things a little more civil and friendly than some other forums are.

I would have thought that anything in English would top anything in French simply because English seems to have become the default language of the internet.

Did you see that at #9 in the list was a French site for medical discussions.

I thought that one was a little bizzare and random given the others in the top 10.

Weird. The French and French speaking people seem to be hypochondriacs and computer focused.

This is coming from someone who used to be big on the [ H ] for about five years before leaving it in disgust at the 'culture' along with a hard clash directly with Kyle Bennet and one of the female mods there who was on a powertrip and stepping over her mod bounds on me. I left voluntarily, and never really posted in comp forums for a few years - until I came here, lurked a while, and saw the mods were actually *gasp* level-headed and fair, and keeping the trash out! That's why I finally created a login and began posting.
