Does anyone use a wheeled container for recycling?

We have them. A friend of the wife's, a 30 year city employee, says they still toss it in the landfill like everything else but it makes the tree huggers and old people feel better.

People still do the work. They just do it at the landfill.

I've always wondered if that was in fact the case.

But I know they have high-tech processing facilities here, so I doubt it.
 
Here, we put our trash AND recyclables into the SAME bin. True single-stream. Trash is supposed to be bagged, recyclables not.
 
Use that blue container for our recycling items and collected every 2 weeks. The grey version is for regular trash/garbage.

Our old recycling company didn't mind the bags. Our new one doesn't want them and that sucks because our recycling bin is a large plastic trash can that we bag because the kids rarely rinse out the cans/jars/etc they put in the recycling can. With bags, we can keep it clean and just throw the whole bag in the recycling bin. Now, we have to try to dump it out and it gets messy and messy on the inside of the bin as well. I know the answer is to clean everything, but when you have kids who can't even keep their rooms clean and coats off the floor, its just an exercise in futility. I think the recycling companies should just be grateful we recycle anything because its a much larger hassle than just throwing everything away.
 
I would check with the contractor to see if you can use that. I know where I am, I can't use something that big unless provided by the contractor (for a monthly fee of course). As everyone else has said, no bagging.

Not around here. WM gives everyone a green bin for trash. Rumpke gives everyone a brown bin for trash. Both companies give you a little crate like box for recycling, unless you pay extra for a bin, which is smaller than the trash bin.
 
All depends on your local collection really. None of us can tell you.

I love what we have here. Trash guys come first, will take cans with lids, bags, and junk, a huge list of surprisingly acceptable junk available on the city website.

Then, (during April-November,) yard waste collection comes, they will take open top cans (with yard waste labels), yard bags, and tied up debris. Again, well documented.

Then recycling comes, and we have a large can like that one, color coded and with a serial number, it has an automated arm on the truck. Point it toward street, give it room, etc.

Also, in a couple days, the second and last roadside leaf sucking will happen. 😀

That's actually for the city across the street, but they get us as well. Heh.

(Actually, we get our trash/yard/recycling picked up by that cities crews also...I don't think our city comes over here)

Yeah it varies all over of course, we still have a big wheeled round one for garbage, one like the ones here for single stream recycling, and yard waste like palm fronds, tree limbs etc just pile it up in a certain length and they have a claw type thing they grab it with and chuck it in the bed of the truck.
 
That's what they city gives me. They say to put in loose recyclables and no plastic bags. I put my recycling into garbage bags, empty the contents into the recycling bin, and throw the garbage bag in the normal trash. I understand why they don't want it bagged, but I'm not entirely sure why you can't recycle plastic bags.

But then again our trash pickup is municipal. It might be different if you have a contract. Since they finally went to mixed recycling I only have to drop my trash at the street once a month, recycling every other week.

Interesting. Our garbage trucks are run by two people. One drives and one walks behind. The guy that walks behind helps deal with alignment problems and also throws away large items not in the trash can (yard bags, etc).

Yesterday I flipped the lid open, and it brushed a 6" long piece of scrap lumber on the workbench, which flipped, flew through the air, and landed on my foot, breaking my toe.

Always clean up your work area when you have completed a project. Always.

Now I feel better about not recycling. (I do not have available curb side recycling out here in propane tank land)
