We have them. A friend of the wife's, a 30 year city employee, says they still toss it in the landfill like everything else but it makes the tree huggers and old people feel better.
People still do the work. They just do it at the landfill."Trash Men"? This is an automated container, a truck comes buy and picks it up with a robotic arm. You seriously have never seen this and think people actually do the work still?

S.C.I've always wondered if that was in fact the case.
But I know they have high-tech processing facilities here, so I doubt it.
I hope it's truth.
Here, we put our trash AND recyclables into the SAME bin. True single-stream. Trash is supposed to be bagged, recyclables not.
DO NOT bag the recyclables.
Machines sort the recyclables at the facility, and bagging fucks everything up.
Use that blue container for our recycling items and collected every 2 weeks. The grey version is for regular trash/garbage.

If my garbage man has to get out of the truck, you get a sticky note "violation" on your can. If he has to do it regularly, you get a fine. If your can is even just cracked open at the top you get a "violation".
But then again our trash pickup is municipal. It might be different if you have a contract. Since they finally went to mixed recycling I only have to drop my trash at the street once a month, recycling every other week.
We do. Also all mixed.
Yesterday I flipped the lid open, and it brushed a 6" long piece of scrap lumber on the workbench, which flipped, flew through the air, and landed on my foot, breaking my toe.
Always clean up your work area when you have completed a project. Always.
