Does anyone still play Magic: The Gathering?

I played this game about 14 years ago. I always thought my cards would be worth money some day but I think my mom threw them out when I moved away.

Honestly, I still keep them not because I think they're going to be "worth something" some day. I keep them because I actually enjoyed collecting them and the artwork on the earlier cards is quite good. I even have a large signed print of Ivory Tower in my living room.

I still have the complete set of Revised, Fallen Empires and Homelands.

Fallen Empires. That was a ridiculous expansion. I think I made a thrull deck for the fun of it once.

I wasn't that serious but I think I may have a thousand or two of these cards left. Gotta check to see what I have.

Back in ~8th grade, we used to play such a bastardized version of this game. We made our own rules and it was ridiculous.

Speaking of different versions, I would occasionally play a version I read about somewhere called Mental Magic. You'd make a deck out of all commons and then as you played the game, each card could be ANY other card with the same type and casting cost. And you could only use each card once. It was fun and really tested your memory.

where did he say upwards of 20??

I played the Mirridon (sp?) block, although I mostly played with cards my friend owned.

Funny story though. I bought a set of 4 Arcbound creatures from Darksteel (they were rares, but i forget the exact creature) and I got em for 2 or 3 bucks shipped. I get the cards in the mail and I get 3 of that creature, and one Arcbound Ravager, which was probably a $15 card at the time.

Been on and off since middle school to now. I played in some draft and seal tourneys for the Ravnica set and got pretty bored with the game. You never know, I might start playing again.

I've got a few thousand in my basement somewhere. I had some pretty kicka$$ cards in my day. Haven't touched em since 3 years go though.

5th edition FTW!

my brother got me into that game...but it was mostly for the character artwork and the cool spells each person did.

MTG was great back in the day. My friends and I would spend 3-4 nights a week at a gaming shop playing the hell out that game til the wee hours of the morning. Had some good times, but eventually the game got dull and I realized how much money I was throwing into it. Also, type 2 touneys and decks were becoming more and more popular and it really didn't sit well with me to not be able to use the vast majority of my cards. The new expansions that were coming out at the time felt like they were making newer versions of older cards, except they were watered-down and nowhere near as powerful. I played from 3rd edition til Mirage I think.

I really miss the strategy aspect of the game. I played the hell out of the old Microprose MTG game for quite a while. When MTGO was announced I was excited because I thought it was going to be subscription based. Once I found out that you had to buy the cards/packs individually, I quickly lost interest. Best I ever had was an unlimited Time Twister and the Candelabra of Tawnos. Also had nearly 4x of each dual land.

Man, I miss that game 🙁

Yeah this is actually the only reason I purchased the cards.

I played maybe a handful of times, but I always bought the cards because I really liked the artwork on them. I have a pretty big card box full of them somewhere, I don't even know the values of it. I also have the original boxes/manuals that all my cards came in somewhere too. Too bad I don't know where it is at the moment, would be interested in taking a peek at it.
