This is the only problem I have had with my 7870. I think it was not happening with some version before 13.4 as it was gone for quite some time.

i've always had issues with monitors not waking up from sleep... going all the way back to my HD4800 series cards and older. i just blame windows and usually never allow my screens to sleep. if i am not going to use my machines for awhile i just shut them down.

Had this sleep issue with a 7970 i got last year, was bad enough i traded the gpu for a notebook.

Card gamed fine but between the noise and the sleep issue,it was to much for me.

Last year I set mine display to not go to sleep, have not changed it since. So no clue if it happens anymore.

I had major problems with this for a long time. I'm on my 3rd RMA'd 7950 and come to think of it, I don't think this one has had the problem. It does a similar annoyance, though, where sometimes the monitor goes to sleep but actually stays on as a totally black screen with the mouse cursor in the center. I just upgraded drivers from 13.1 to 13.5 beta so we'll see if that helps.

I always did have monitor waking issues, but it was only happening with Trixx. I picked up this solution on overclock.net, maybe it can apply here as well.

"To (possibly) fix sleep issues with Trixx:

Maybe this can help you...

open regedit and find
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Video\{XXXX...}\0000
( 'XXXX' means device number. There are several device number folder and u should find 'AdapterDesc' in 0000 folder which key value is 'amd radeon HD 7XXX Series'. )

At that '0000' folder, Change 'PP_SclkDeepSleepDisable REG_DWORD' value 0 to 1.
and reboot!"

I only ever saw a problem like that after waking from sleep. I'd wake my PC from sleep, and my Dell 2408 would power on like it was waking up, display no signal for a few seconds, then power off. This cycle would repeat until the machine was reset or put to sleep again.

The fix I use is to set my PC power button to activate sleep mode. That way, if this problem happens, I just push the button to go to sleep, wait a few seconds, wake up again, and then it's fine after that.

This has been occurring intermittently with my 5850 and 6950 for 4+ years I think, though recently (i.e. since Windows 8) I can't recall it happening that much--maybe once or twice. I never could tell if it was related to my 2408 or the AMD card(s).

i had this problem also on slow response time monitors.

Some of my monitors would not fire up even out of sleep.
At first i thought it was just the uber slow refresh times of the IPS panels i had so i kinda ignored it.

But yeah... i also had this problem when i was on ATi.

Great to see this post, I've been shopping for a new video card because about a month ago my xfx 5850 started with this exact problem, it had previously had occasional issues on the 2nd monitor when resuming from a sleep, maybe 5 times in a year (I never power my PC off), but about a month ago every time the monitors power suspend I've only been able to use the "pull the plug" method to get my PC back. I'll try the new drivers tonight, thanks!

The "black screen with mouse cursor" problem only happened in 13.1 for me. Upgrade your drivers and you should be fine.

In the Windows power options? Can't say I've tried that.

Forgive me, I can't quite decipher your post. Are you saying I should set it to Off, or to Maximum Power Savings?

I think this is an option in BIOS, too.

I ran a 7750 for a while that didn't have any monitor wake problems, but would not send HDMI audio if my AVR was turned off then back on again. Didn't have any issues with 12.8, but everything after that did. I got so frustrated with AMD I just went to the iGPU of my 3570K (I don't game at all).

EDIT: connected by DVI.

I have a version of this error (using 13.4) where my DP connected monitors do not come back on wake, but my DVI does. I just have to detect and they pop right back though.

Considering my system couldn't sleep at all through a couple driver revisions, I am not bothered by this small issue.

Been running an AMD 7950 for 5 months and never had a problem with wake from sleep with dual link DVI connection.

Maybe I should try it with DisplayPort.

I'll run some tests and report back here.

OP, what video card you got?

While cat 12.6 and specially cat 12.8 fixed the issue on MOST cards, a few of them required BIOS reflash. The Gigabyte HD7770 Oc v1 is one example, no matter the driver version, it needed a BIOS reflash. I am suspecting that in your case your card might need it.

Other than the gigabyte HD7770, no other card had the issue for me.

I have a 7870. Specifically, it's an MSI Twin Frozr 7870 GHz OC edition. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127662

How can I tell if I need to flash it?

I had this issue extensively when I had my 7850. It's an incredibly annoying bug and it can lead to data loss. Completely unacceptable IMO. I wound up disabling sleep altogether but that wound up costing me more on my power bill.

Radeon 7950 with 2 monitors (1 HDMI, 1 DVI)

Haven't experienced a problem waking from sleep state. However I did have a some monitor glitches with pushing the card to high on OC. Varied symptoms but one of them was the main monitor entering sleep mode while I was actively using the system and not recovering until a full PC power cycle.

Problems went away when I dialed back the OC. Consider trying the same as a test. Alexruiz's bios information also looks like a promising lead.

Upgraded to 13.4, issue changed and got worse, several CTD's, finally stable but when attempting to resume both monitors power back up with black screens and the main has a pink bar of about 6 pixels across the bottom of the screen, both on DVI and both ran like this for years, back to the buy a new Geforce card and RMA this third xfx video card (power supply is a 750w PPC silencer mkII and i run it on a UPS, power is not the issue).

Never had any wake problem with my 6970 lightning on dvi and dp dual monitors nor gigabyte 6850. Both cards at factory clocks.

If I ever forget to disable all displays but my primary (which is Display Port) and let them fall into sleep mode while in multi-monitor mode--such as when I fall asleep with more than one screen on--they won't wake back up no matter what I do. Have to hard reset.

Been that way for the past several months, it's usually not a problem as I always power down before bed, but still. Likewise the HDMI Audio skipping bug due to low 2D clocks, which I have to fix with a manual registry edit every time I update drivers.

Small annoyances that add up over time because there's no reason for them not to have been fixed a LONG time ago.

I do not and have never experienced this bug, and I must have used nearly every single Catalyst driver since purchasing my 7970 back in January 2011.

(for a couple months there, I also had a second 7970, and never experienced the issue in that time either, regardless of whether I was running either of the cards alone or together in Crossfire)

I thought I was the only one who had this problem! I thought it was something wrong with my MB or something and was just dealing with it. Glad to know I wasn't the only one. :0

This has come back for me in the recent drivers. It's not even sleep for me. If I set the monitors to turn off but not sleep, I still have to hard reset because they won't power back up.

It wouldn't be too annoying, except one of my monitor's power buttons is broken, so I have to poke in there with a pen to turn it on and off.
