Symbolism be dead. I truly hope that the American people do not vote for Obama because of some crap like destiny or some cultural revolution, instead of realizing what an utterly colossal travesty the current administration is and a McCain/Palin administration will be.

I feel much the same way about Obama.
I've felt that way about Republicans since Nixon and as time passes they get worse.

For voting for a guy because he's black? That's racism.

So voting for McCain and Palin, that's just plain stupid.

BO is half black - half white - and all red (as in Marxist). Too bad some people identified with BO's shtick and projected their own identities on to him (as the marketing intended) and made him their candidate on race as single criteria .Too bad that the first bi-racial candidate is such a haunted house and would be posion pill for nation to swallow - destined to be such failure even his own voters will be sorry in a matter of weeks after election. It would be better off if he loses. David Dinkins ruined things for black candidates in NYC after he sat back and let Al Sharpton (good buddy of BO's) stoke riots (Crown Heights, Freddie's Fashion Mart etc). Good thing McCain can still send BO down in flames if he runs decent campaign. Decent people cant vote for BO -black, white, polka dot etc.

Probably. But really no worse than voting for an equally unqualified candidate to prove you're "progressive" or something. Liberals love Obama because voting for him represents some kind of white guilt cleansing ritual.

Can't speak for Liberals but I'm voting for him because he's not a Republican and after the last 7+ years of Republicans in the White House one would have to be a Moron to want another 4 years of that kind of incompetense.

How come "the media" never includes Fox and Clear Channel?

Anyone who thinks Obama is a socialist or a Marxist or that he is winning solely due to some special favoritism from the media is -- in no uncertain terms -- a moron. A blind partisan idiot who knows nothing about what is actually going on in this country politically, economically, and culturally except what Republican/right-wing source spoonfeeds him/her.

I am serious.

50 years ago a Barack Obama could not have existed in American politics. To have him win, would be an enormous affirmation of how far this country has come. I truly believe a man like Obama can unite this country into its next social and cultural revolution.

The more I follow this election the more I think to myself what is really at stake here. This is bigger than the Iraq War and even bigger than the economy. This is a chance for Americans to define our identity once again.

It's starting to feel like destiny that Obama will win this election. It really is.
What will really be exciting is when a black man wins without a bunch of people telling us how wonderful it is that he won.

Or a bunch of people proclaiming that we are a nation of racists if he doesn't win.

Hoe that McCain isn't as bad as he seems.

And that we find a way to keep him breathing for 4 years ...

or 8, if he is reelected and keeps palin as his vp

*i'm not really overly concerned about him dying.

The guy is 72 years old! Do you realize that 72 is the average life expectancy of men in this country? Oh, and being President tends to age a person quickly. Clinton went in looking 45 and came out looking 65 after 8 years in office.

I know guys who've dropped dead in their 40s...of course they don't have access to the same level of healthcare as McCain I'm sure.

More idiocy. Where do you guys go to get spoonfed this bullshit?

Liberals love Obama because he's a Democrat who is probably going to win. With the economy crumbling after 8 years of incompetent Bush and the corrupt Republicans (and their blind wingnut hacks who will apologize for that same incompetent Bush and the corrupt Republicans no matter what), this is a big deal. That Obama happens to be half-black is just icing on the cake. Sorry, there will be no white guilt cleansing ritual to satisfy the racists.

Liberals just don't pay much attention to race, etc when it comes to electing the best person for the job. How to explain this? Hmm.... let's see, an example, if conservatives didn't let their prejudices stand in the way of picking the best person for the job, they'd be running Romney right now.

WTF are you smoking??

Obama is a man of mixed heritage who was raised by white people in Hawaii.
He is not some multicultural candidate. He is more of white guy with dark skin than anything else.

WTF are YOU smoking? Other than your racist last sentence, you didn't dispute what he said, that Obama represents a future of mixed cultures.

Ever been to Hawaii? You'd find a lot of well adjusted familes from mixed cultures.

Think maybe the first time it happens in 225 years, after a 43-0 record of white males, isn't the time to ignore it - maybe we can ignore it the second time?

Of course not, all you care about is any risk that it might help your enemy party; if it were a black Republican instead, I think you would probably have posted this thread.

Or a bunch of people proclaiming that we are a nation of racists if he doesn't win.

Most people I've seen who have commented on the issue one way or the other have said they know people who won't vote for him because he's black. I know such people.

But again, of course your only interest is in how that might help your enemy party win; I don't see any posts from you condeming the Republican lies about 'sexism' against Palin.

I have seen some of your other partisan posts, but this is definitely amongst the top of the bullshit heap that you've contributed.

I'm not about to put much faith into that. I've seen it and I don't like what I see. As for the other side, well, one can hope.

The real question is, what will you do if he wins? Now that's the scary part all these nut cases with guns might start going loopy saying it was gods will I had to take out this or that...

Far Right nuts talking to god on a two way radio with guns. It's gonna get real interesting if he does win.
